Financial Reporting Director directs and oversees the preparation and distribution of all periodic financial statements for external use. Ensures that reports, filings and documentation complies with company's regulations, professional standards, and SEC and GAAP reporting guidelines. Being a Financial Reporting Director confirms that entries, transactions, and accounts are accurately and properly consolidated and are included in internal and external financial statements. Advises management of trends and changes in reporting requirements and recommends best approach for any changes in reporting. Additionally, Financial Reporting Director may serve as a liaison with or oversee the work of external auditors. May direct the preparation of materials for board or shareholders. Requires a bachelor's degree of Accounting or Finance. Typically reports to top management. The Financial Reporting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Financial Reporting Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Overview

    Assists the Vice President of Finance (CFO) in managing the financial affairs of the various entities under the control of Helen Keller Hospital.

    Responsibilities

    • Helps employees improve job performance by identifying and removing barriers that prevent employees from taking pride in their work. Develops improvement action plan based on feedback from staff.
    • Develops departmental budget and assure efficient operation through control of staffing and expenses and enhancing revenue; evaluates and explains variances. Finishes fiscal year within /- 5% of budget (unless variance has been approved by senior management).
    • Communicates effectively with all departments, personnel, senior management, medical staff, patients and visitors; schedules regular staff meetings at least monthly.
    • Maintains professional growth and development through continuing education either by formal education every four to five years, seminars or workshops pertinent to job at least annually, reading management related articles and books in related field. Evaluates changing demographics, legal and governmental regulations, and technical developments in the field and develop new programs responsive to such needs.
    • Establishes a monitoring and evaluation process that provides a timely, continuous effort to improve care, enhance utilization of available resources and to reduce risks and hazards within the hospital using the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) Model.
    • Develops overall policies and operating plans for the department based on hospital wide goals. Evaluates department performance and recommends modification to operating procedures where appropriate. Implement and follow Hospital policy.
    • Maintains a departmental orientation program to provide initial job training and familiarize staff with their jobs and the work environment. Provides opportunities for on-going in-service education and other training to increase staff knowledge of work related issues and to improve staff performance.
    • Ensures that department meets all applicable Federal and State Governmental agency standards, JCAHO standards, industry/professional standards, the Authority’s Corporate Compliance Code of Conduct and Policy standards, and hospital wide policy.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required Education: Bachelor's Degree with a major in accounting or finance. Prefer Certified Public Accountant. Five years of meaningful experience, to include supervising and managerial duties; however, a post-graduate degree and/or certification as a CPA, CMA, or other such similar designation evidencing accounting expertise and knowledge may reduce the experience requirement by one year.
