Financial Reporting Director directs and oversees the preparation and distribution of all periodic financial statements for external use. Ensures that reports, filings and documentation complies with company's regulations, professional standards, and SEC and GAAP reporting guidelines. Being a Financial Reporting Director confirms that entries, transactions, and accounts are accurately and properly consolidated and are included in internal and external financial statements. Advises management of trends and changes in reporting requirements and recommends best approach for any changes in reporting. Additionally, Financial Reporting Director may serve as a liaison with or oversee the work of external auditors. May direct the preparation of materials for board or shareholders. Requires a bachelor's degree of Accounting or Finance. Typically reports to top management. The Financial Reporting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Financial Reporting Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Job Duties

    The Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) is a large organization with a statewide footprint, employing over 12,000 employees. VADOC is seeking a highly qualified Assistant Director of Financial Services and Reporting to serve as key senior management leader providing day-to-day guidance to other managers and staff while providing recommendations to improve financial management and reporting services, procedures, policies, and programs. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Assistant Director must be knowledgeable of all aspects of financial services; adept in evaluating/updating existing programs and policies; and revising and/or developing systems that empower Financial Management & Reporting Unit (FMRU), unit heads and executives to make data-driven decisions.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Successful candidates must have considerable experience in financial management, budgeting, or accounting. Possesses a breadth of knowledge across multiple functions and programs. Demonstrated knowledge of financial management within state government. Considerable knowledge of policies and procedures for general accounting, financial reporting, and setting up and monitoring internal controls and financial auditing practices. Significant experience managing programs, services and/or employees in a business environment. Ability to organize and lead meetings and facilitate effective communication, collaboration, and decision-making among key stakeholders. Experience in multitasking and effectively managing competing priorities. Significant experience working with financial management systems.

    Additional Considerations

    Prior supervisory experience. Considerable knowledge and experience in state government financial management. Demonstrated experience or knowledge in process improvement or process re-engineering. Demonstrated knowledge in leveraging technology.
