FIRE CAPTAIN manages a team of firefighters. Ensures all equipment is properly maintained and serviced. Being a FIRE CAPTAIN directs training and conditioning activities. Administers the staff work schedule to ensure adequate coverage. Additionally, FIRE CAPTAIN leads and coordinates responses to fire events, hazardous material incidents, auto accidents, and search and rescue operations. Prepares post-incident reports as required. Leads or coordinates fire safety education and inspection activities. Typically is required to pass periodic physical ability tests. May require registry in NREMT. Typically requires an associate degree in fire science. Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a manager. The FIRE CAPTAIN manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a FIRE CAPTAIN typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Work in a fun and interactive after school environment providing quality program delivery to the students in Camp Fire's After School Program at Sam Adams Elementary School (SAES) in Cassopolis, MI. This is a great job for someone who likes to see kids develop and reach their full potential. And our part-time schedules work well around day and evening student schedules.
Time Commitment: 3:15pm - 6:15 pm at SAES (Monday through Friday), flexible days available, but prefer candidates that can work all weekday afternoons.
Requirements: At least eighteen (16) years of age; prior experience working with youth preferred; and hold (or be willing to obtain) Adult/Child/Infant CPR, AED & First Aid Certification
