Fire Fighter is responsible for rapid response to fires, accidents, and other emergencies to protect people, property, and the environment. Works with firefighting teams to control and extinguish fires and safely manage hazardous materials. Being a Fire Fighter performs search and rescue, responds to auto accidents, and provides emergency medical services. Uses and operates fire tools, equipment and apparatus as effectively and safely as possible. Additionally, Fire Fighter performs routine maintenance and inspection of firefighting equipment and gear to ensure proper condition and preparedness for emergencies. Prepares post-incident reports as required. May participate in fire safety education and inspection activities. Typically is required to pass periodic physical ability tests. May require registry in NREMT. May require an associate degree in fire science. Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Superintendent of the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training (BFST) is a key figure in ensuring the readiness, safety, and effectiveness of firefighters and emergency responders in Florida. This role requires a dynamic and forward-thinking leader who can navigate the complexities of the field and drive positive change. This critical and multifaceted position is responsible for overseeing all operational and administrative functions of the BFST which involves managing personnel acquisition, curriculum development, budgeting, facility maintenance, certification processes, coordination of fire and emergency training facilities and programs and oversight of firefighter safety and wellness programs. The incumbent also represents the Division of State Fire Marshal at various events, collaborates with national organizations, and plays a key role in disaster response efforts.
