Fire Fighter is responsible for rapid response to fires, accidents, and other emergencies to protect people, property, and the environment. Works with firefighting teams to control and extinguish fires and safely manage hazardous materials. Being a Fire Fighter performs search and rescue, responds to auto accidents, and provides emergency medical services. Uses and operates fire tools, equipment and apparatus as effectively and safely as possible. Additionally, Fire Fighter performs routine maintenance and inspection of firefighting equipment and gear to ensure proper condition and preparedness for emergencies. Prepares post-incident reports as required. May participate in fire safety education and inspection activities. Typically is required to pass periodic physical ability tests. May require registry in NREMT. May require an associate degree in fire science. Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Fire Fighter works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Fire Suppression Technician

  • ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:  

    • Use required tools and test equipment such as HAND TOOLS AND CORDLESS DRILLS to SERVICE AND INSTALL fire extinguishers, and pre-engineered KITCHEN FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS.  
    • Comprehensive working knowledge of NFPA codes, standards, and systems such as all types of fire extinguishers, and pre-engineered suppression systems.  
    • Troubleshoot and identify defective components of pre-engineered suppression systems.  
    • Repair or replace damaged components of pre-engineered suppression systems as well as fire extinguishers.
    • Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.  
    • Required to be punctual to required work locations and complete scheduled projects in a timely manner.  
    • Use the Field Service Lightning PROGRAM to track work orders, materials needed, time on job, etc.  
    • Complete documentation on work orders.
    • Understand and follow SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies and procedures.  Participate in weekly Toolbox talks.  Employee must always know location all related safety documentation on each project.  
    • Ensure company-provided vehicle is clean and well maintained as required by company policies. 
    • Suppression Technicians will be placed in on-call status as required by location to handle emergency service requests AS NEEDED. 
    • Periodically attend seminars or similar education/training sessions to stay abreast of the latest technology, codes, and standards changes.     
    • Other duties may be assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    The qualifications listed below are representative of the elements required to perform the job successfully, however in some cases, an equivalent combination of Education, Training, Certifications and Experience may meet the job qualifications. 

    Education, Training, Certifications: 

    • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
    • State or any required certification, preferred.

    Experience, Knowledge, Skill Requirements:

    • 2 Fire Life Safety Industry experience specifically within Fire Suppression.
    • 2 years of professional computer skills

    Communication Skills:

    • Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English with employees and customers.

     

    Other Qualifications: 

    • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
    • Must be able to comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol Policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreement.
    • Must be able to travel 90% of the time.

    Physical Requirements: 

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, ascend and descend step stools, ladders and stairs, kneel, lift <50lbs, reach above and below shoulders, stand and walk for extended periods of time.  Employee is required to see in color, close and far distances, peripheral, depth, and adjust focus. Employee will occasional be required to balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift >50lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights.

    Work Environment:

    Employees will regularly be required to work outside, and be exposed to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards and noise. Employee will occasionally be required to work indoors in an office setting, work alone and with others.    Employee must consistently wear all appropriate personal protective equipment, as required by company safety policies while visiting locations.
