Fire Fighter is responsible for rapid response to fires, accidents, and other emergencies to protect people, property, and the environment. Works with firefighting teams to control and extinguish fires and safely manage hazardous materials. Being a Fire Fighter performs search and rescue, responds to auto accidents, and provides emergency medical services. Uses and operates fire tools, equipment and apparatus as effectively and safely as possible. Additionally, Fire Fighter performs routine maintenance and inspection of firefighting equipment and gear to ensure proper condition and preparedness for emergencies. Prepares post-incident reports as required. May participate in fire safety education and inspection activities. Typically is required to pass periodic physical ability tests. May require registry in NREMT. May require an associate degree in fire science. Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Fire Fighter works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     About the Role: 

    As a Fire Fighter II, you will receive intermediate-level airfield firefighting/crash rescue training and experience under general supervision. Your responsibilities will include mastering the use and maintenance of specialized fire fighting and crash/rescue equipment, delivering fire prevention services, and executing fire fighting and crash/rescue procedures and practices. 

    Requirements: 

    To be eligible for this role, you must meet or exceed the following criteria:

    • Qualify for a "Favorable" federal background investigation.
    • Be at least 18 years old.
    • Possess a valid Utah Driver's License.
    • Qualify to obtain an SLCIAP Aircraft Movement Area Badge.
    • Pass NFPA 1582 medical evaluation.
    • Complete Firefighter skills attributes.

    In addition, the incumbent must:

    1. Possess DoD Certification or ProBoard/IFSAC equivalent; Fire Fighter II.
    2. Possess or be able to obtain Airport Fire Fighter, HAZMAT Operations, Driver/Operator Pumper, ARFF & Mobile Water Supply within 1 year of hire.
    3. Obtain an appropriate U.S. Government Driver License within 1 year of hire.
    4. State of Utah EMT Certification or NREMT equivalent.

    • Performs firefighting and rescue services.
    • Responds and administers first-aid treatment to anyone in need.
    • Actively participate in national, state and local reoccurring training requirements.
    • General Fire Station cleaning and equipment/tool inspection and maintenance.
    • Other duties assigned.
    • First aid certification required including CPR.
    • Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. working at great heights, working in extreme outdoor weather conditions, being subject to possible physical attack, etc.
    • The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, defending oneself and/or others against physical attack.
