Fire Inspector conducts inspections of new and existing buildings to ensure compliance with fire and safety codes. Prepares reports and issues violation documents. Being a Fire Inspector documents and defines actions needed to resolve non-compliance situations. Conducts fire investigations. Additionally, Fire Inspector has extensive knowledge of codes, ordinances, construction materials, and alarm systems. Typically requires an associate degree in fire science or equivalent. Has completed fire inspection training and may require the Certified Fire Inspector I (CFI) credential and applicable State License. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Fire Inspector is capable of working on complex problems and exceptions without direct supervision. Has a wide and comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects of the job. Description of Work
NOTE : This is a seasonal, call-in position.
These employees are scheduled by the Muskegon County Election Coordinator to work the State Mandated Nine Days of Early Voting for State and Federal Elections at the Muskegon County Consolidated Voting Site.
Election inspectors may be required to work up to 10 hours per day assisting voters at the early voting site.
Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications
1. Must be at least 16 years of age. If 16-17 years of age, a work permit is required.2. Must be a registered voter in Michigan if 18 years of age, individuals aged 16-17 must be a Michigan resident.
3. Must have reliable transportation that may have to be used to carry out job duties of this classification.
Special Requirements1. Must not have a felony or election crime conviction.2. Must not be an election challenger, a candidate, a member of a candidate's immediate family, or a member of the local board of canvassers.
3. Must affiliate with a political party. Party registration is not a requirement. Michigan law requires that election inspectors disclose affiliation to ensure balanced staffing.
Affiliating as "independent" or "unaffiliated" is not a legal option for an election inspector.4. Must complete an election inspector application and file it with the County Clerk5.

EVALUATION CONTENTApplicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position.
When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.
