Fire Inspector jobs in Oakland, CA

Fire Inspector conducts inspections of new and existing buildings to ensure compliance with fire and safety codes. Prepares reports and issues violation documents. Being a Fire Inspector documents and defines actions needed to resolve non-compliance situations. Conducts fire investigations. Additionally, Fire Inspector has extensive knowledge of codes, ordinances, construction materials, and alarm systems. Typically requires an associate degree in fire science or equivalent. Has completed fire inspection training and may require the Certified Fire Inspector I (CFI) credential and applicable State License. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Fire Inspector is capable of working on complex problems and exceptions without direct supervision. Has a wide and comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects of the job.     Fire Alarm/ Fire Sprinkler Inspector

    The Fire Alarm / Fire Sprinkler Inspector’s duties include testing and inspection of fire alarm/ sprinkler systems with knowledge of multiple manufacturers’ products. We have a need for a self-motivated, customer service-oriented Inspectors with strong written and verbal communication skills. The Inspector will provide accurate and detailed inspections reports with all proper documentation of improvements and complications.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Perform routine inspections and testing of life safety product lines
    • Handle low voltage wiring and corresponding devices for the operation of low voltage equipment
    • Daily communications with Project Manager and/or Schedule Coordinator on inspection or project delays, requirements and general status of job
    • Work with Project Manager, Schedule Coordinator and Office Administrative Staff to ensure complete closeout and turnover of jobs to the client (Confirm that work is completed so it can be billed in full)
    • Perform: weekly, quarterly, annual, 5-year inspections of automatic sprinklers, alarm & detection, special hazard systems and fire pumps.

    Job Qualifications

    • NICET Level I or II preferred
    • California Fire Life Safety Certificate within the last 6 months.
    • Strong working knowledge of life safety and NFPA codes 72 and 25.
    • Working knowledge of alarm panels, devices and critical components
    • Willing to perform testing and maintenance
    • Able to complete documentation as necessary; proficient in the use of personal computers and Microsoft Office; with or without reasonable accommodation
    • Willing to coordinate between inspection deficiencies and service required to correct found deficiencies
    • Prepared to read and write English clearly
    • Capability to present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) and the general public
    • Possess a valid driver’s license, in accordance with Company policy
    • Willing to pass a pre-employment drug test, background and reference check

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to lift up to 50lbs with or without reasonable accommodation
    • Regular bending, reaching, climbing and walking

    This position has a salary range of $22.00-$32.00 per hour depending on experience.
