Fire Inspector Supervisor oversees the inspection of fire-damaged dwellings to determine cause and prevention. Enforces a variety of fire laws, regulations, and policies. Being a Fire Inspector Supervisor requires a high school diploma or its equivalent with at least 4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Additionally, Fire Inspector Supervisor relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. May direct and lead the work of others. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.     Summary

    The Inspector is responsible for the inspection of railcar and railcar components, and creating accurate repair estimates, billing statements, and reports to facilitate maintenance and qualification of railcars and railcar components. The Inspector is also responsible for ensuring inspection and maintenance is conducted in a safe and quality manner.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

     

    • Performs thorough inspection of railcars and railcar components.
    • Maintains current knowledge of government, industry (Federal Railroad Administration & The Association of American Railroads), customer, and company policies, procedures, and work instructions.
    • Inspects and ensures workmanship meets government, industry, customer, and company quality requirements.
    • Inputs estimates for maintenance, qualifications, and alterations into computer estimate system.
    • Participates in root-cause investigations, and corrective and preventative actions to prevent recurrence. 

    Qualifications

    The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.

     

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Proficient in the interpretation of drawings and specification, including weld and nondestructive testing symbols.
    • Ability to collaborate and communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing, with customers and at all levels of the organization
    • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships
    • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
    • Ability to drive results through leadership and team performance
    • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including steel toed boots, goggles, ear plugs, gloves. 

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 5 years of railcar experience.
    • Proficient with the American Association of Railroads (AAR) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) industry and customer requirements.
    • NDT Level II in VT, MT, PT, UT, LT, IR; AWS CWI
    • Proficient in computer software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Visio, Intelex, Entrust, and Syspro

    With the exception of clerical, administrative, and some management positions, the physical environment requires the employee to work in hot and cold environments, in and out of the weather, work safely around heavy equipment and on top of and under railcars, as well as around railroad tracks.  Employees are required to use personal protective equipment such as steel toe boots, hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, welding and grinding shields, etc. or as environmental conditions dictate.
