Veolia Nuclear Solutions Federal Services is looking for a discipline manager for Fire Protection Engineering. In this position, a self-driven professional will be responsible to develop a fire protection team who will develop fire protection system designs (fire alarm/reporting, suppression, passive features, e.g. fire barriers, dampers, doors), prepare specifications, and support construction installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing to meet local and national codes, standards, and DOE requirements. This includes developing plans and specifications for new or modified fire protection systems, preparing fire hazard analysis and life safety analysis, developing/updating fire protection programs in accordance with DOE O 420.1C, performing facility fire protection assessments, preparing fire protection functional design criteria and requirements, and reviewing/approving submittals for fire protection detailed design during engineering support to Construction. Additional scope may include support to operations with configuration walkdowns, fire protection inspection, testing, and maintenance (IT&M) procedure development, and identification of operational impacts due to changes in applicable NFPA fire protection requirements. Successful candidates will be self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented individuals who possess the ability to work well independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment using excellent communication and time management skills. In addition, Principal engineers perform engineering design evaluations, provide input on design company level processes/procedures, and hire/manage/mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
• Recruit, hire, and manage engineering staff.• Develop and maintain relationships with clients and partners.• Participating in multidiscipline design teams to develop detailed designs• Working independently to develop specific design media to meet client design criteria and objectives• Development and/or review of design media that will be issued for construction• Preparing design drawings, design calculations, equipment procurement specifications, fabrication and construction specifications• Reviewing and evaluating customer design criteria and interpreting and applying design codes and standard to ensure design products conform to approved design criteria, preparing or reviewing design calculations and design drawings or sketches for correctness and accuracy• Develops and applies broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific area• Evaluates, selects, and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with complex features.• Works on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects• Assists with proposals
Required Education/Experience:• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection or Fire Safety Engineering• Professional Engineering License • 15 years of fire protection design/installation/maintenance experience • 8 years of experience in support of nuclear facilities or designs• DOE or Hanford Experience strongly preferred• Demonstrated knowledge of national codes and standards such as IBC and NFPA, plus DOE fire protection requirements per DOE O 420.1C and DOE-STD-1066.• Demonstrated knowledge of fire protection system design or analysis tools, e.g. HASS or other tools.• Must have excellent written and oral communications skills as well as excellent computer skills that are relevant to job applications.
