The Prevention Specialist will provide substance use prevention to youth, families, and the community.
The Prevention Specialist will work in schools and communities to facilitate substance use prevention services following the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF). The position is funded through a grant received from Family & Social Services Administration, Division of Mental Health and Addiction for planning and implementation for Community Readiness, Capacity Building, Planning and Strategy Implementation for Substance Use Prevention.
This is a Grant Funded Position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
The Prevention Specialist will be the lead for activities associated with and will facilitate, coordinate and lead collaboration among agencies for prevention planning and assessment process; serve as the point person for community education, outreach and social media; coordinate implementation of programs and activities among key partners (such as the school systems); deliver, as well as coordinate, the provision of capacity building ;plan and implement programs to help youth 0-17 in the target demographic become aware of substance use issues and educate youth, parents and community members on how to make alternative lifestyle choices.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Minimum Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in behavioral health, psychology, social work, nursing, counseling, or a related field. Preference given to applicants with experience with education or related human service activities; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the knowledge, abilities and skills in substance use prevention.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills: Ability to demonstrate knowledge of prevention field and approaches, knowledge of child and adolescent development, knowledge of mental/behavioral health in child and youth populations.
Requirements:
This position will require travel to locations outside of the designated office. A valid driver’s license is required. Use of personal vehicles may also be needed when department owned transportation is not available. Employees will be reimbursed for these expenses. Attendance at several mandatory training courses within the State which may involve working hours outside normal business hours and overnight stays.
Experience with education or related human service activities; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the knowledge, abilities and skills in substance use prevention.
Effectively communicate verbal and written information with program recipients, students, parents, the public, other outside professionals, and in-house staff.
Maintain required records and documentation of prevention projects and activities and meet all reporting requirements.
Job Type: Full-time, M-F 8-5; some nights and weekends required
Pay: Salary Range $45,000 - $53,000
