    Department Information
    Campus Recreation provides a premier recreation fitness center, aquatic center, recreation fields, and leadership challenge course for the Georgia Tech community. We offer programming that includes Intramural Sports, Club Sports, Fitness Instruction and Classes, Aquatic programming, and Outdoor Recreation. Our staff includes 25 full time employees, 300 student employees, and another 150 part time and volunteer employees. The Campus Recreation Center (CRC) is a 300,659 sq.ft. facility located on Ferst Drive on the West side of campus. The CRC is a unique expansion of the existing swimming and diving venue built for the 1996 Olympic Games.

    Job Summary


    Plan and direct all Fitness programming functions within the department. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance and providing feedback, and making pay recommendations. This position will interact on a consistent basis with other department management and professional staff, Student Life management, vendors, various student groups, alumni, representatives of Risk Management, and Legal Services. This position typically will advise and counsel department management. This position will supervise: assigned staff.

    Responsibilities


    Job Duty 1 -
    Organize and oversee the daily operations of fitness ensuring that functions are carried out consistent with policy and teach programs as necessary to deliver a best in class fitness program

    Job Duty 2 -
    Formulate and oversee implementation of policies and procedures for fitness area

    Job Duty 3 -
    Monitor assigned program results; take corrective actions or implement enhancements as appropriate

    Job Duty 4 -
    Plan and direct promotional efforts for assigned function or programs as appropriate

    Job Duty 5 -
    Formulate and, on approval, administer operating budget for Fitness

    Job Duty 6 -
    Provide advisory resources to Directors to inform on potential program changes or make recommendations for new programs

    Job Duty 7 -
    Manage the area's technology needs and research new trends where appropriate

    Job Duty 8 -
    Ability to manage, and cultivate relationships with campus partners to deliver new program options for the campus community to include managing faculty and staff programming and referrals from other campus departments

    Job Duty 9 -
    Evaluate current program offerings and analyze data to drive new programming decisions for our members

    Job Duty 10 -
    Perform other job-related duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications


    Educational Requirements
    Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    Other Required Qualifications
    Certifications, Licenses or Permits:

    • National certification in personal training: American Council on Exercise (ACE), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), with Next College Student Athlete (NCSA) preferred
    • Group exercise - American Council on Exercise (ACE), Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), with American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) preferred
    • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), First aid (FA) Instructor


    Required Experience

    Four to six years of job-related experience

    • Next College Student Athlete (NCSA)
    • American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)

    Master's Degree in exercise science or health/fitness related field

    • This job requires occasional travel up to 10% or more of the time
    • Required to work evenings and weekends especially during summer months
    • Ability to collect and compile operational and statistical data to improve program methods and procedures

    SKILLS

    • This job requires experience in building cooperative working relationships with a wide range of students, faculty, and staff
    • Experience in the development of new programmatic initiatives in conjunction with other units on campus
    • Strong written, verbal, and group communication skills
    • Interact effectively and collaboratively with a broad range of people, including program areas, stakeholders, vendors, and equipment supplier
    • Advanced knowledge and expertise in exercise physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, nutrition, strength training, health/fitness assessments, personal training, and group fitness
    • Managing staff recruitment, hiring, scheduling, motivation, and retention
    • Provide exceptional service to the program and campus community
