    Required QUALIFICATIONS

    Required Education:
    Two (2) years of post-secondary education or training with course work in exercise science or fitness training.
    Required Experience:
    Two (2) years of experience in a fitness setting.
    Licensure or Certification Requirements

    Preferred QUALIFICATIONS

    Preferred Education
    Degree in Exercise Science or a related field and/or with nationally recognized fitness certifications (i.e. ACSM, NSCA, AFAA, ACE, NASM, etc.).

    Experience in a college setting.

    Position Purpose:
    To provide quality instructional support for the Fitness Education Center and support the Center's mission to provide an educational program dedicated to empowering people in the area of health and fitness by encouraging regular exercise, healthy eating habits, and sufficient rest and relaxation.
    Essential Functions:
    • Contribute to the Fitness Education Center's supportive learning environment.
    • Lead new student Orientations, exercise equipment seminars, wellness/fitness seminars, circuit training.
    • Lead small and large groups of students in a variety of exercise class formats.
    • Perform fitness assessments and develop individualized exercise prescriptions for a diverse student population.
    • Deliver excellent customer service in the Fitness Education Center, including, but not limited to, answering questions, directing students, providing detailed instructions, demonstrating computer usage, demonstrating exercise equipment usage, and referring students to appropriate resources.
    • Guide and coach fitness center interns and assist in developing career-related knowledge, skills, and abilities.
    • Assist the Fitness Education Program Coordinator and Instructional Specialist in all aspects of Fitness Center operations, including, but not limited to equipment maintenance, cleaning, record keeping, maintaining student files, public relations, bulletin boards, handouts, etc.
    • Follow safety and sanitizing laws and guidelines.
    • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Supervision Statement:
    Reports to and works under the general supervision of the Division Dean. Work may be led or coordinated by lead worker or faculty coordinator. Work is performed independently using specialized experience and training. Work is reviewed for the quality of assistance provided.

    This position may have responsibility to assign tasks, provide priorities and train student assistants and hourly employees.
    Physical Demands/Working Environment:
    This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions that include office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors. This position requires that an employee is able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day. Work may require transporting materials up to fifty (50) pounds with or without support. Work safely.
