The Fitness Center Specialist will provide fitness and wellness services to varied personnel including office workers, maintenance personnel and transit operators with an emphasis on exercise and healthy lifestyle counseling.
This is a part-time position that will work 15 hours per week. The work schedule is Mon/Wed 9:00am-12:00pm; Tues/Thur 12:30-3:30; and Friday 11:00am-2:00pm PST.
The salary range is $30.00-$33.00 per hour (depending on such factors as job-related knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications).
Responsibilities:
- Provide consultations for program members including education regarding proper use of fitness equipment, exercise techniques and effective programming to meet health and fitness goals.
- Conduct various fitness screenings including: manual blood pressure, body composition assessment, fitness assessments (Step Test), mobility screenings, resting heart rate, and various other screenings following ACSM guidelines.
- Develop individualized programs focused on cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility, stress management etc.
- Promote wellness services and engagement in the program offerings.
- Conduct exercise classes (Pilates, Yoga, Circuit Training etc.) as requested by the client.
- Assist with the development and implementation of any incentive programs.
- Maintain detailed tracking and logs on personnel participation, screenings, consultations, exercise equipment cleaning and performance issues etc.
- Attend health fairs, table promotions and tailgates to provide information about the wellness program and wellness information.
- Ergonomic assessments.
- Participate in client meetings to review program success.
- Perform additional duties and assume additional responsibilities as identified by manager for the efficient operation of WorkCare and the client.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in the field of Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or related field is required.
- Current certification as a Personal Trainer or Health Fitness Instructor from AAFA, ACSM, ACE, NASM, NSCA, or American Strength & Conditioning Associations or similar accredited programs required.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certification required.
- 2-3 years of experience providing wellness and fitness testing services required.
Skills and Competencies
- Fitness testing experience (Step Test, Movement Assessments etc.) and fitness related certifications (CPR, ACSM, NSCA, CES etc.) are required.
- Strong health and fitness knowledge.
- Excellent computer skills a must.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once time.
- Requires regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
Computer Skills
- Must be competent in the Windows operating system environment, Adobe Professional, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and learn other software as needed.
Physical Demands
- Requires sitting and standing for long periods of time.
- Some bending and stretching could be required.
- Some travel required.
- Working under stress and use of computer/phone required.
- Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard.
- Occasionally may be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and/or crouch.
- Occasionally may be required to teach various group exercise classes.
- Ability to lift/move up to 20 pounds and climb stairs.
- Ability to kneel for extended periods of time while rendering emergency care and/or CPR.
Work Environment
- Mainly indoor, office environment conditions.
- The noise level is usually moderate.
- Air quality is good and temperature is controlled.
