Fleet Manager manages the acquisition, operations, and maintenance of the organization's fleet of motor vehicles. Oversees scheduling and dispatch operations for vehicles and drivers. Being a Fleet Manager evaluates, purchases, leases, and disposes of vehicles to maintain the fleet. Develops and maintains vendor and service provider relationships for fuel, maintenance, and other essential services. Additionally, Fleet Manager administers insurance policy coverage, negotiates agreements, and participates in claim resolution. Develops and implements safety, preventive maintenance, and accident prevention programs. Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and fleet-specific regulations, licensing, registration, and reporting requirements. Manages the fleet expense reporting and budgets. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Fleet Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Fleet Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Fleet Manager:

    Mears is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fleet Manager to oversee the management and maintenance of our utility company's fleet of vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, equipment maintenance, and fleet management practices. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our fleet to support the company's mission.

    • Manage fleet budget, analyze costs, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
    • Promote safety culture and conduct regular safety training and audits.
    • Supervise fleet technicians, mechanics, and administrative staff.
    • Cultivate a positive work environment emphasizing teamwork and continuous improvement.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in construction are a plus.
    • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
    • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods, with repeated lifting (up to 50 lbs.), kneeling, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
    • In-depth knowledge of utility construction methods, proper use of tools and materials, and safety practices.
    • Proficient computer skills and ability to use various software, including experience with fleet management software.
    • Proven experience in fleet management, preferably in the utilities sector.
    • Thorough understanding of DOT regulations and compliance requirements.
    • Strong technical knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance practices.
    • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel as needed.
    • Fleet programs experience.

    Preferences:

    • DOT Medical Card and Class A or B CDL required, if operating a company vehicle.
    • 3-5 years supervisory experience in utility construction.

    This position is subject to the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) drug & alcohol testing regulations as outlined in 49 CFR Part 382 and/or 49 CFR Part 199.
