Flight Medic transports and transfers patients by aircraft and assesses the extent of an illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to follow. Provides advanced life support care to patients who are ill and/or injured. Being a Flight Medic replenishes the aircraft with medical supplies after flights. Must be CPR certified. Additionally, Flight Medic requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to manager. Flight Medic's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Summary-Administers direct patient care in the transport setting, acting under the leadership, training, and direction provided by company Medical Director, Quality Assurance Coordinator and Manager, and under the California Nurse Practice Act. Additionally, treats patient at the Advanced Life Support (ALS) level of care and patients and patients who are above the scope of a Paramedic but not critically ill or injured.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities-Responds to patient care and/or ALS RN calls according to program protocols. Provides high quality routine and emergency nursing care of the patient in the transport environment in accordance with established ALS RN program policies, protocols, standards of care, standing orders, and under the medical control of the sending physician and/or company ALS RN Transport Protocols.Provides patient care within the Registered Nurse scope of practice as defined by the Board of Registered Nursing and per ALS RN standardized procedure, utilizing critical thinking skills to manage the ill or injured adult or pediatric patient. Performs a complete assessment on each transport patient. Documents all assessment findings, therapeutic interventions performed and patient responses on the Patient Care Record, and completes all paperwork prior to end of all shifts- Community Nursing Practices including but not limited to administering PPD Tests, flu shots, etc.
Other Duties-Management of the stable adult cardiac patient. Management of the stable patient of other etiologies. Management of the patient requiring invasive hemodynamic monitoring. Knowledge of professional nursing practice and theory. Knowledge of principles and practice of patient transport operations upon successful completion of the ALS-RN orientation and training program
Qualifications-High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Minimum of 18 years of age. Must have current California Licensure as a Registered Nurse, Current ACLS, PALS, BLS provider status. California Driver’s License
Demands-Must be able to perform the following tasks: Walk - frequently, up to 4 hours per day.Run - infrequently, 1-2 minutes per day.Stand - frequently, up to 4 hours per day.Sit - frequently, up to 8 hours per day.Kneel - frequently, 10-15 times per day.Bend - frequently, 10-15 times per day.Must have ability to step up and/ or climb over obstacles. Must have adequate hearing acuity to perform job tasks (as delineated in California DMV DL51 medical examination requirements) Must have adequate vision (with corrective lenses if needed) to clearly distinguish colors, shapes, distances, etc. (as delineated in California DMV DL51 medical examination requirements)Must have adequate hand and finger dexterity to grip and hold both large and small items. Must have adequate hand and arm strength to grip and lift heavy objects. Must be able to tolerate work in an outdoor environment (heat, cold, rain, etc.)

Ability to function independently; to prioritize, delegate and utilize critical thinking skills in a variety of patient care situations. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow personnel, patients and their families, hospital staff, the public, and other collaborating agencies. Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills are also required.
