Senior Center Food Services Assistant - Part-time
The Opportunity
The Town of Mansfield, Connecticut (www.mansfieldct.gov) is seeking a customer service oriented individual to serve as its Senior Center Food Services Assistant. This position is accountable for performing a full range of basic tasks in the preparation and cooking of food in the Senior Center kitchen (Maple Road Café) and at catered events. This is a highly customer service oriented position, interacting daily with a wide variety of seniors. The Mansfield Senior Center provides a wide variety of programs and services designed to meet the diverse and ever-changing needs of seniors in our community. We strive to support Seniors in our community by providing an open and accepting atmosphere, creating and providing ongoing opportunities for lifelong learning, encouraging and supporting independence and promoting interconnectedness and civic engagement within our community.
The Senior Center is a part of the larger Human Services Department which promotes independence, personal enrichment and an enhanced quality of life for Mansfield residents of all ages through a variety of programs and services. Through shared values of advocacy, collaboration, education, inclusivity, and service, the Human Services Department promotes individual resiliency and community connectedness.
Mansfield, with a population of approximately 26,000, is located in the Northeastern portion of the state, better known as Connecticut’s Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor. Home to the University of Connecticut, Mansfield offers the unique blend of urban (Downtown Storrs - www.mansfieldmdp.org), suburban, and rural living in a university setting. Mansfield has a variety of cultural and educational offerings, as well as an abundance of natural resources ideal for activities such as hiking, cycling, and kayaking. Mansfield is a Council-Manager form of government, with the Town Manager serving as the Chief Executive Officer responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Town.
Work Schedule & Location
This position is 19 hours per week. The selected candidate will normally work: Mondays, 8:30am – 1:30pm; Tuesdays, 8:30am – 1:30pm; Wednesdays, 8:30am – 12:30pm; and Fridays 8:30am-1:30pm. This position is currently funded through December 31, 2024 through the use of American Rescue Plan Act dollars. Grant funding may be extended through December 31, 2026.
The work location is the Mansfield Senior Center, 303 Maple Road, Mansfield, CT 06268.
Compensation
The hourly rate for this position is $18.00 - $20.66. There are no benefits with this position.
Minimum Training and Experience
Candidates should have a high school degree or equivalent. The selected candidate must possess at time of hire, or do so within their first six months of employment, a Food Safety Certificate. Possession of CPR and first aid certifications highly desired.
