Summary of Position:
The Nutrition Services Coordinator employed by the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank is responsible for implementing SNAP-Ed nutrition and life skills curriculum for neighbors in the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank’s 12-county service area ranging from pre-school children to senior adults. SNAP-Ed curriculum includes education related to nutrition, physical activity, food safety, and/or gardening and takes place in various settings including but not limited to classrooms and the Mobile Teaching Kitchen food truck (MTK). The Nutrition Services Coordinator assists the Nutrition Services Director in maintaining working relationships with Wichita Falls Area Food Bank’s partner agencies and programs as well as community organizations, as needed, to offer nutrition services to staff, volunteers, and clients.
Summary of Responsibilities:
· Plan, administer, and coordinate nutrition education classes and SNAP-Ed programming utilizing evidence-based materials through partnerships of community agencies with the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank.
· Assist the Nutrition Services Director in developing new programming based on community demands that aligns with current nutrition guidelines and health initiatives.
· Advocate for policies that increase food security and access to nutritious foods.
· Support Wichita Falls Area Food Bank team with media opportunities related to food, nutrition, food security, and nutrition education programming.
· Fulfill SNAP-Ed requirements, including accurate and timely data entry into the Program Evaluation and Reporting System (PEARS).
· Track data related to program goals, evaluate data and outcomes to assess program strengths and make changes as necessary, report metrics to supervisors.
· Recruit and respond to agency requests for programming, scheduling on-site and off-site class series, train-the-trainer workshops, nutrition education “nudges,” and food demonstrations as appropriate.
· Assist the Nutrition Services department in implementing Policy, Systems, and Environment initiatives to improve community nutrition in a variety of settings including but not limited to food pantries, health care organizations, housing communities, and schools.
· Contribute nutrition content for newsletters and social media sites.
· Assist with Wichita Falls Area Food Bank special events and fundraisers that promote nutrition, hunger awareness, and potentially generate financial or in-kind contributions.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:
· Relevant coursework, certification, or vocational training in dietetics, nutrition, community health, education, and/or the culinary arts preferred. Relevant work experience will be considered alongside formal education.
· 2 years’ experience in a nonprofit organization or classroom environment preferred, experience with curriculum development a plus.
· Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
· Ability to effectively communicate with people of diverse socioeconomic and educational backgrounds required.
· Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail, ability to handle interruptions, maintain focus, meet deadlines, and produce accurate work.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point) and standard office equipment.
· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to make presentations and feel comfortable speaking in front of a group.
· Strong problem organizational and solving skills.
· Knowledge of food assistance programs, hunger issues, and/or experience with social service agencies preferred.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
· Ability to work independently and part of a team.
· Safe driving record and valid driver's license required.
· Ability to be certified in First Aid and Food Handling.
· Must be able to pass criminal background check.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a variety of office and community settings indoors, outdoors, and in a mobile food truck. Employees will use computers and phones daily. Regularly lifts, moves, and carries objects of up to 50 pounds, such as food, cooking equipment, and classroom supplies. Occasional work scheduled outside of normal office hours, such as evenings and weekends, and will drive frequently due to work performed in the community.
A major challenge of this position, as with all positions, is working in cooperation with the Board of Directors, staff, member agency representatives, volunteers, and the general public in an effort to achieve the WFAFB's mission. This requires frequent communication with staff and occasionally performing tasks that are not specifically indicated in the job description.
