    Interwest has grown our planning team from 5 planners with 4 clients four years ago to 36 planners and 64 clients today. We are looking to continue to grow our Planning Team and to expand our services to municipalities throughout California and the rest of the country.
    Interwest is seeking an experienced and motivated Principal Planner to manage our Greater Sacramento Area planning operations and to manage current and advanced planning projects throughout the state.
    This work would be completed remotely and/or at client sites. Alternatively, if you work better in an office environment, we can provide office space in one of our northern California offices.
     
    Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
    • Manage 5-10 urban planners working in a variety of locations.
    • Conduct Business Development as part of the Interwest Management Team
    • Respond to RFQs and RFPs
    • Project Management of current and long-range planning projects
    • Processing development entitlement applications
    • Update zoning code and development standards
    • Direct planning studies
    • Advance/policy planning, state and federal permitting procedures and compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) may all be required.
    • Generally supporting local agency planning departments
    We are looking for individuals who:

    • Have excellent oral, written communication, and presentation skills.
    • Are creative problem-solvers.
    • Have experience working with city or county planning agencies in California (as staff or consultant) with experience processing simple to extremely complex development applications.
    • Can work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
    • Has the ability to manage projects effectively and meet firm deadlines.
    • Can mentor and develop early career staff.
    Education:
    • Graduation from a recognized College or University with a bachelor’s degree in planning, landscape architecture, public administration, geography, architecture, civil engineering, environmental sciences, or a closely related field
    • 10 years of experience with substantial work with California planning agencies.
