    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Education: BA or equivalent from an accredited school or university.
    • Federal Certification for Interpreter/Translator.
    • Strong background and years of experience in interpreting and translating from source language(s) to target language(s); is fluent in at least two languages.
    • Current NE Drivers license and excellent driving record.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Include, but are not limited to)
    District Functions:
    • Follows ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information.
    • Identifies and resolves conflicts related to the meanings of words, concepts, practices and behaviors.
    • Translates messages simultaneously or consecutively into specified languages—orally or by using hand signs—maintaining message content, context, and style integrity as much as possible.
    • Proofreads, edits, and revises translated materials proficiently.
    • Reads written materials and is able to proficiently rewrite them into specified languages. Knowledgeable of the structure and content of both the English and foreign language.
    • Uses reference materials such as dictionaries, lexicons, encyclopedias, and computer terminology databases as needed to ensure translation accuracy.
    • Displays active listening, speaking, and reading comprehension skills.
    • Uses critical thinking, time management and active learning skills for current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
    • Displays speech recognition, oral expression and comprehension skills. Demonstrates effective written comprehension and expression skills.
    • Works independently, one-on-one, and with groups. Addresses staff members, parents and students effectively in various settings.
    • Demonstrates proficient computer knowledge, organization and records management skills necessary to support the ELL program.

    Classroom Functions:
    • Adapts translations to students’ cognitive and grade levels in collaboration with district staff members.
    • Converts one spoken language into another. Pays attention carefully, understands what is communicated, and expresses thoughts and ideas clearly and appropriately for age and grade level.
    • Works with individuals or small groups of students in all curriculum areas and is familiar with these curriculum areas.
    • Works with individuals or small groups of students in following non-teaching activities: supervises breaks, lunchrooms, errands, chores, field trips, community access activities, self-care needs, and independent living skills using proper interpretation skills.
    • Assists with behavioral intervention procedures as requested using simultaneous and consecutive interpretation as necessary.
    • Assists the school district in the development and organization of appropriate learning materials and activities for students using proficient translation skills.
    • Translates necessary written communications, (i.e. notes home, messages to other staff, notice of meetings, newsletter, etc.) under the direction and approval of teachers and ELL Program Director. Properly manipulates sentence flow with same coherence as those in the source document.
    • Assists certified staff in the preparation of written reports/forms (i.e., IEP progress report, inventories, requisitions, etc.) as requested by teachers and ELL Program Director.
    • Proficiently maintains student files and information forms using effective computer skills.
    • Performs other duties assigned by teachers with administrator approval and the request of the ELL Program Director.
