Director, Council Trips

    The Director, Council Trips is responsible for developing, planning, and delivering high-end, foreign policy-focused domestic and international travel experiences for CFR’s membership and staff. The Director oversees trip planning from start to finish and is responsible for developing trip concepts with appropriate in-house experts, determining the destinations, and proposing topics for meetings and briefings.

     

    This position is part of CFR’s Executive Office and reports to the Chief of Staff to the President, working closely with various departments within CFR on specific projects. This position can be based in either CFR’s New York or Washington, DC office on a hybrid basis. CFR currently defines hybrid status as working at least three days a week onsite, with Tuesdays and Thursdays considered institutional anchor days where all staff are required to be onsite.

    The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

    • Propose, plan, organize, and execute all CFR member and staff trips, including but not limited to: international and domestic trips for CFR donors, single- and multi-day trips for CFR members (life and term), trips with CFR fellows and military fellows, professional development trips for CFR staff
    • Create agendas, schedule meetings, contact vendors, and arrange travel logistics on the ground for participants
    • Work closely with members of the department(s) overseeing the trip, coordinating guest lists, communications, and staffing needs
    • Develop detailed itineraries working with in-house experts
    • Act as primary contact for vendors and trip participants prior to, during, and after travel
    • Negotiate rates and terms with all vendors
    • Research destinations and arrange transportation and hotel accommodations
    • Track invoicing, payments, and verify compliance to budget while delivering the highest value
    • Seek solutions if problems arise and make alternative arrangements with the guidance of upper management

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations or related field. Knowledge of foreign policy
    • 10 or more years of related experience, including experience in coordinating educational or cultural travel programs
    • Strong attention to detail and follow-through
    • Project management experience
    • High level of proficiency with technology including Word, Excel, and databases
    • Ability to provide concierge-level customer service with high-level individuals
    • Excellent verbal and communication skills
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize
    • Ability to adjust to changing priorities and handle multiple assignments at once in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to uphold CFR’s standards of confidentiality and discretion

    Pay Range

    $125,000 to $150,000 per year

    Pay commensurate with experience and education
