      POSITION INFORMATION

      • The Dean of Students collaborates with the administrative team for the overall leadership at the school. This position supports students in developing positive and effective social behaviors, supports teachers in managing classroom processes and creating effective transitions; and supports parents in communicating their needs and questions and resolving any concerns.
      • The Baker Middle School Athletic Director is responsible for providing outstanding leadership and communication in the development, organization, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of Baker Middle School’s athletic programs. This position must work collaboratively with building administration, maintenance department, students, parents, staff, coaches, and community members to promote co-curricular athletic programs that foster academic excellence, leadership, character, skill development, sportsmanship, and an understanding of the sport. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for planning, athletic schedule development, program evaluation, and personnel and financial management of the BMS athletic program. * The BMS Athletic Director will coordinate daily activities with the Building Principal while reporting directly to the District Athletic Director.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - DEAN OF STUDENTS

      • Provide educational leadership through sharing in the formation and interpretation of school procedures.
      • Coordinate the full range of extra-curricular and co-curricular activities including fiscal responsibilities.
      • Oversees, in concert with the building Principal, all building activities.
      • Implements building attendance standards, coordinates attendance staff and operations; communicates with counselors, teachers and parents concerning attendance problems.
      • Implements district and building policies in the area of student supervision and control;
      • coordinate staff supervisors, communicate with parents and staff regarding discipline problems; supervise student campus conduct and bus regulations.
      • Maintain records and files as necessary.
      • Participate as an active and contributing member of the Building Leadership Team.
      • Stays current with changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
      • Instructional support to certified and classified as directed by supervisor.
      • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

      • Assumes responsibility for the scheduling (and rescheduling due to delays/cancellations) of all BMS athletic and co-curricular events.
      • Supervises and directs the coaching staff to ensure that proper practice schedules are maintained and that OSAA rules are adhered to by all athletic teams; works to ensure that all coaches treat all players with respect, and adhere to all district policies related to sports and professionalism.
      • Arranges for officials and assures proper supervision of home and designated away games per established agreements. Ensures that all referees, officials, and/or umpires be treated with respect by all coaches and players.
      • Oversees and supervises the coaches in the cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms, including the maintenance of updated inventories (including; but not limited to safety recertification of football helmets and other PPE for teams).
      • Oversees, supervises and evaluates the BMS athletic programs and coaching staff; Responsible for the conduct of all coaches in their building at practice and at games, both home and away.
      • Arranges BMS athletic-related transportation with BSD transportation department.
      • Works directly with the maintenance department with regards to all athletic facilities to ensure consistent communication with coaches and to ensure that overall maintenance and use of sports facilities meet district expectations.
      • Develops and implements appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities, coaches, participants and observers.
      • Ensures adherence to all OSAA and District regulations including medical and safety requirements.
      • Inspects facilities and athletic fields for health and safety concerns and make recommendations for improvements.
      • Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time and manner both for the District and OSAA.
      • Ensures that proper form(s) (insurance, attendance, medical) are obtained and current for participants.
      • Ensures that all student athletes are eligible, insured and have paid fees.
      • Coordinates all BMS athletics-related services (ticket takers, announcers, event managers, etc).
      • Maintains a safe environment for athletes, student body, coaches, officials and spectators at all times.
      • Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
      • Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
      • Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
      • Assists in developing and/or maintaining coaches/advisor handbook and extra-curricular handbook with input from District administration.
      • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

      CONTRACT INFORMATION
      • The certified salary scale for the 2022-2023 school year is $38,489 - $72,959, for 1.0 FTE, depending on years of experience and level of education. Baker School District allows all teaching experience years within the U.S. (substitute years not included) and education to be used in placing the teacher on the salary schedule. Currently, teacher contracts are approximately 175 days for 1 FTE with a four-day work week. An additional 6% of the base salary is allotted for this position. In addition, eight (8) additional 8-hour days are added to the contract for this position to help with staff in-service, etc.
      • Baker School District 5J offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package with multiple choices available to employees. Benefits offered include medical, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, long term care, tax-deferred retirement savings plans, and more. In addition, the District shall pay the six percent (6%) employee contribution (PERS) required by ORS 238.200 and ORS 238A.330.
      • This position will begin at the start of the 2023-2024 school year.

      QUALIFICATIONS
      This position requires the candidate to hold, or be eligible to hold an Oregon Teaching License with the proper endorsement.
