Under the direction of the General Education Department Chair, the Adjunct Instructor of English and Critical Thinking will provide face-to-face instruction for General Education courses at the South College Asheville campus, including: English Composition and English Composition w/Research. Instructors develop presentation materials for face-to-face delivery, facilitate the online portion of the class (discussion participation and management, grading/feedback, outreach, etc.), communicate with faculty lead on subject matter, evaluate student progress, and meet faculty expectations. Classes meet in-person one day each week for two hours per class with asynchronous teaching continuing throughout the week.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop instructional materials to facilitate face-to-face student learning outcomes for the course.
2. Collect all assessment data related to student learning outcomes.
3. Maintain an equitable system of student evaluation based on sound practices in accordance with the course syllabus.
4. Return all graded assignments in a reasonable time frame according to South College Faculty Expectations.
5. Project an appropriate professional image.
6. Support first-year, pre-program students in their transition to college.
7. Enforce all South College rules and policies.
Requirements
Minimum of a master’s degree in relevant English field
Prior higher education teaching experience preferred in both a face-to-face and online environment
Proficient in the written and oral communication of the English language
Proficient in Microsoft Word
