Forest Technician (Wage) Cornplanter Forest District

  • THE POSITION

    Are you passionate about our local forests and love spending time outdoors? If so, we invite you to join the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' Cornplanter Forest District! You will provide technical support to the foresters in their forestry duties and assist in the management of resources state on state forest lands and on other forested lands in the district. You will not only experience the fulfillment of public service but also have the chance to grow professionally and explore various promotional opportunities!


    DESCRIPTION OF WORK

    In your role, you will support the Cornplanter District staff with technical forestry tasks to improve forest management on state and other forested lands. This involves aiding Foresters in collecting field data for stand analysis and forest management plans. Additionally, you will assist in stewardship practices like tree planting, timber stand improvement, and wildlife habitat management, as well as wildfire prevention and suppression activities as directed by management.

    Work Schedule and Additional Information:
    • Seasonal Full-time employment without benefits. The season runs from March through November.
    • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
    • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

    • An associate’s degree in forest technology; or
    • Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.
    • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

    Condition of Employment:
    • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.

    Other Requirements:
    • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
    • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
