    The Fontenelle Forest Executive Director is responsible for the organization’s programmatic and
    financial health as well as the overall vision of the organization in partnership with the board of
    directors. As a passionate advocate of nature, the Executive Director thinks and plans strategically and
    inspires community members to become engaged in the work of the Forest. This position develops and
    implements policies and plans, and organizes, coordinates, and manages the programs and activities of
    the Forest. The Executive Director oversees an annual budget of $3.3M and leads, motivates, and
    evaluates the management team and staff.

    The responsibilities of the Executive Director include the following:

    Strategic & Operational Leadership:

    • Develop, lead, and implement long range strategic plans, goals, and operating priorities; measure
    and report goal achievement; evaluate results and revise strategies as necessary in partnership
    with the board of directors
    • Ensure that the Forest’s operations are consistent with its governing documents, are conducted
    in an ethical manner, and are true to its mission
    • Ensure that resources and staffing models are well-managed to effectively support the
    organization’s current and future needs
    • Partner with the Director of Finance to support short and long-term participatory budget
    processes, maintain internal controls, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local
    regulations, and provide timely financial updates to the board
    • Lead and support the Forest’s staff in successful development, enhancement, and
    implementation of the Forest’s programs, and understanding of current trends in serving client
    populations effectively


    Revenue Generation:

    • Partner with the Director of Development and staff to establish clear fundraising strategies,
    annual goals, and detailed revenue development plans
    • Engage personally with donors and cultivate strong relationships with foundations, major donors,
    corporations and the guild
    • Provide strategic and operational leadership for capital and/or other long-term fundraising
    campaigns, earned income generation and growth, and special events including fundraisers and
    donor recognition opportunities

    Staff Engagement: Inspire, mentor, and lead a dedicated staff by fostering collaboration and teamwork, empowering

    each team member to fulfill their role and maintain high professional standards in all areas
    • Recruit and develop a robust pipeline of diverse, talented, and passionate employees and

    volunteers as needed

    • Create an inclusive, high performing, and customer focused employee culture


    Board Governance:

    • Establish and maintain relationships with the board of directors to seek their ideas, talents, and
    resources while continuing to evolve the organization’s governance
    • Partner with the board in its policy-making role and ensure its members have timely access to
    accurate and updated information to help them reach decisions that ensure the organization has
    the financial resources to realize its strategic and programming goals
    • Provide support to the board, including cultivation and recruitment, direction on good
    governance practices, support in fundraising, and ongoing education and engagement
    • Engage the board in mission driven strategic planning, updating members regularly on the status
    of current activities and matters that require action, as well as ways in which they can help
    ensure success

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s/Advanced degree preferred.
    • At least 5 years of prior executive-level experience as a successful organization leader (nonprofit
    and/or nature-based organization preferred)
    • A proven track record of successful fundraising
    • A proven track record of growing organizational capacity and programmatic impact
    • A demonstrated ability to translate a broad vision and plans into specific objectives oriented
    towards results
    • Knowledge of how to foster an environment of accountability, healthy work relationships and

    partnerships, and inclusivity among organizational staff in order to maintain a positive and
    collaborative work environment

    • Outstanding communication skills and ability to work well with media, staff, and the community

    Physical Demands
    • Regularly works at a desk, remaining in a stationary position up to 75% of the time
    • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as copier and
    postage machine; requires ability to traverse administrative spaces
    • Communicate verbally with donors, guests, staff, and volunteers both in person and over the
    phone
    • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
