    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

     

    A bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Forestry or a related field from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university; or

     

    Anticipated receipt of a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Forestry or a related field from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university within six (6) months of the closing date of this advertisement.  NOTE: Applicants in this category will not be appointed until they have acquired and provide final proof of receiving the required degree. 

     

    A bachelor’s and/or master’s degrees in Forestry or a related field obtained outside the United States must either: 1) be obtained from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university; or 2) curriculum must include at least two (2) of the following four (4) courses: Silviculture, Dendrology, Forest Mensuration or Forest Management.  NOTE: Applicants will provide an academic equivalency evaluation obtained in the United States showing the required courses.

    Location is Negotiable between Lee, Hendry and Collier Counties. Headquarters is located at 10941 Palm Beach Blvd, Fort Myers, Florida.

     

    JOB DUTIES:

     

    This is a technically demanding professional administrative position responsible for developing, directing, and coordinating the multiple use management and recreational plan on the Picayune Strand State Forest and Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest. 

     

    Responsible for developing and implementing the Management plan on Picayune Strand and Okaloacoochee Slough State Forests.  This includes such things as supervision of forest inventory (including rare, threatened and endangered plant and animal species), timber sales, road maintenance and repairs and establishment of recreational sites. 

     

    Responsible for holding public workshops and working with local agencies (Department of Environmental Protection, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Fresh Water Fish and Game Commission, National Park Service and police agencies) to ensure cooperative efforts and input into the management of the forest.

     

    Provides wildfire and emergency response support as directed.  Assists in the development of smoke management, wildfire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression burning plans and hazardous fuels mitigation.  Assists in the enforcement of Florida’s open burning laws and regulation. 

     

    Responsible for the budgetary control of Picayune Strand State Forest and Okaloacoochee Slough State Forests.  This includes annual budget, budget preparation, preparing contracts for service, handling timber sale receipts, purchasing supplies and general budgetary responsibilities.

     

    Responsible for keeping abreast and knowledge of forestry topics, research, endangered species laws, and ecosystem management techniques.

     

    Performs other related work as assigned, which may include the handling of revenue.
