Forester manages and develops forest lands and resources for economic and recreational purposes. May require a bachelor's degree in a related area and at least 7 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Being a Forester is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Additionally, Forester performs a variety of complicated tasks. Generally manages exempt and nonexempt employees. Typically reports to the head of a unit/department. Duties/Responsibilities:- Manage day-to-day forest operations and staff.
- Assist with existing client relations and procurement of new clients.
- Technical forestry work (timber cruising, timber marking, prescribed burning, etc.)
- Develop new lines of work and make improvements in existing systems and operations
Qualifications/Requirements:- A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Forestry from a Society of American Foresters accredited program is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of practical experience in consulting forestry, forest industry, timber procurement (or similar)
- Must be honest, ethical, and possess a strong work ethic.
- Leadership skills and experience in working with and managing personnel
- Background and experience in prescribed fire implementation
- Applicants must be in good physical condition.
- Familiarity with common forest technology is expected.
- Good communication, interpersonal, and written skills are needed.
- Able and willing to work long hours when necessary
- Strong ability to multi-task
