The New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority is seeking a journey level electrician to provide electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair for the Olympic Jumping Complex (OJC) and Mt. Van Hoevenberg (MVH). Electricians report to the Mount Van Hoevenberg and Olympic Jumping Complex Facilities Superintendent. The successful candidate’s work will include medium voltage distribution; low voltage controls; buildings; ski lifts; voice and data communications; and using electrical power from milliamps to 15.8 kV.

Located in Lake Placid, New York, the OJC is the only ski jumping facility in North America homologated for both winter and summer jumping training and competitions. In addition to attending jumping events, visitors can also enjoy the ADA-compliant, state of the art 8-person pulse gondola ride from the jump’s base to the bottom of the jump towers. From there, a ride in a glass enclosed elevator to the top of the HS128 meter ski jump offers amazing 360 degree views of the Adirondacks. The OJC also offers a four line Sky Flyer Zip Line which allows visitors to experience the thrills of ski jumping, as the course follows the incline and speed of the HS100 meter ski jump. MVH, also in Lake Placid, is home to a world-renowned combined skeleton & bobsled track along with 55 km of Cross-Country ski trails. MVH hosts world class Nordic, Biathlon and Nordic Combined events on 5km of World Championship rated trails. The new, state-of-the-art Mountain Pass Lodge serves as the hub for MVH activities.

This position works on site at both the OJC and MVH and provides electrical maintenance and repair of equipment in order to ensure safe and efficient electrical operations at the facility. Daily activities required to complete responsibilities may include climbing, standing, or being seated for extended periods, walking on mountainous grades, and exposure to cold winter conditions as well as hot summer conditions. Work outside the normal workday, as well as holidays and weekends, may be required as is necessary to fulfill responsibilities.

Essential Duties (this list is not exhaustive):

• Ensure that the OJC has safe and reliable electrical infrastructural operations to include lifts and snowmaking equipment
• Meet and/or communicate with the supervisor to coordinate activities and schedule work in order to deliver projects on a timely basis
• Examine blueprints, schematic drawings and sketches to determine material and labor requirements to fulfill projects
• Perform scheduled electrical maintenance on equipment
• Work with high and low voltage systems
• Perform upkeep and maintenance of lift controller programming.
• Responsible for following the company’s safety and risk management policies and procedures
• Maintenance of electronic circuits as required.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues
• Other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum of four years practical experience and/or documented completion of technical courses and a valid driver’s license. Should have a working knowledge of: applicable electrical code; AC and DC drives and starters; and programmable logic controllers. Talented candidates that lack full credentials will be considered for apprentice level employment

Other considerations:

The successful candidate will be safety centered, be self-motivated, and have the ability to work independently. Must be able to work in a variety of environmental conditions. Preference will be given to candidates with ski lift experience.

Compensation and Benefits:

The hiring rate for journey-level electricians is either $26.03/hr or $28.04/hr depending on qualifications and experience. Apprentice level technicians start at either $20.83/hr or $24.06/hr depending on level of knowledge and experience. Premium pay is also provided for eligible off-shift work.
