Position Summary: Entry level mechanic position requiring good mechanical aptitude to assist with maintenance, modification, construction, and inspection of lifts, carpets and coaster as directed by supervisor or senior mechanics. Learn and comply with all applicable policies, procedures, and regulations of Wisp Resort, the ANSI B77 code, State of Maryland DLR requirements, lift manufacturer’s requirements and insurance carriers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Wisp Resort is a four-season ski, golf and recreational destination resort. Because of the nature of the resort business, employees may be asked to perform other duties outside of the job description. Also, hours of operation are 24/7 including weekends and holidays.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities: Level 1 – NE02
- Watch for hazards and potential hazards involving passengers, employees and machinery.
- Report and/or correct conditions which may negatively affect guest or employee safety.
- In the event of an emergency, follow Wisp Resort and Lift Department policies and procedures.
- Attend periodic safety meetings to increase safety awareness.
- Learn proper use of appropriate safety equipment.
- Assists with routine mechanical maintenance on lifts to maintain lifts up to regulations of Wisp Resort, ANSI B77, State of Maryland DLR, lift manufacturers and insurance standards.
- Assists with routine and periodic inspections on lifts to ensure reliability and compliance with applicable standards.
- Assists with troubleshooting of lift problems as they occur.
- Assists with pre-operational lift start-up inspection to ensure that each lift is ready to run each day.
- Become educated in the proper operation of shop equipment and power and hand tools both in the shop and on the mountain in the repair and maintenance of lifts.
- Advises senior mechanic or Supervisor of changing conditions or occurrences that may adversely affect the lift machinery and/or its passengers.
- Have knowledge and ability in the operation of chairlifts
- Assists with minor repairs on over-the-snow vehicles, trucks, side by side vehicles, etc. as needed.
- Attends classes, seminars and in-house training to expand and improve on skills.
- Maintains a friendly, congenial and helpful attitude while effectively serving our guests and interacting with other employees.
- Takes pride in area cleanliness by picking up trash in and around area facilities and reports unsightly conditions.
- Represents Wisp Resort both on site and off site in a way that is favorable to both oneself and Wisp Resort.
- May be required to work day, night or evening hours and overtime, emergency call-outs, weekends and holidays as required. Hours to be worked will be determined by the job requirements, training and experience of employees.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities: Level 2 – NE03
- All duties of a Level 1 Lift-Coaster Mechanic.
- Certified to climb lift equipment, by attending and passing Wisp Resort Certified Climbing Program.
- Certified to climb lift equipment, by attending and passing Wisp Resort Certified Climbing Program.
- Trained and understand lock out tag out procedures.
- Trained and understand proper use of snowmobiles.
- Trained and follow proper workbasket procedures.
- Performs routine mechanical maintenance on lifts and coaster to maintain up to regulations of Wisp Resort, ANSI B77, State of Maryland DLR, lift manufacturers and insurance standards.
- Build, and install modifications as per Wisp Resort, ANSI B77, State of Maryland DLR, lift manufacturers and insurance standards.
- Trained and capable to perform basic coaster car inspections and repairs.
- Performs annual routine maintenance and periodic inspections on lifts to ensure reliability and compliance with applicable standards.
- Troubleshooting of lift problems as they occur.
- Performs pre-operational lift start-up inspection to ensure that each lift is ready to run each day.
- Operates shop equipment and power and hand tools both in the shop and on the mountain in the repair and maintenance of lifts.
- Advises the Supervisor and/or Manager of changing conditions or occurrences that may adversely affect the lift machinery and/or its passengers.
- Performs minor repairs on over-the-snow vehicles, trucks, and snow blowers as needed.
- Keeps abreast of and informs Supervisor of new techniques and developments in the mechanical maintenance field so that lifts are reliable and efficient.
- Climb lift equipment as necessary, and be able to work at heights following all safety procedures.
- Be knowledgeable and capable of working alone as the week end mechanic during summer operations.
- Advises the Lift Supervisor/Manager of items that may affect the budget and/or scheduling of projects.
- Attends classes and seminars to expand and improve on skills.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities: Level 3 – NE05
- All duties of a Level 1 and Level 2 Lift-Coaster Mechanic.
- Have knowledge of ANSIB77 codes, keep abreast with code updates.
- Read blueprints and other diagrams to trouble shoot problems.
- Assists with the training of Lift Crews in the fall of each year.
- Get training and gain ability to run equipment such as loader, skid steer, backhoe, etc.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities: Level 4 – NE06
- All duties of a Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Lift-Coaster Mechanic.
- Assists with record keeping of work performed by crews.
- Supervises crew in absence of department manager.
- Be knowledgeable and capable of working alone as the week end mechanic during summer operations.
Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
Level 1:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum (2) seasons experience in a mechanical field, or at a ski area in other mountain operations positions. Specialized training may be substituted for experience.
- Must be at least (18) years of age.
- Knowledge of hydraulics and low voltage circuitry are desirable, but not required.
Level 2:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Strong mechanical ability.
- Wisp Resort Climbing Certification
- Trained for basic repairs and service on coaster cars.
- Knowledge and ability to run chairlift for work crews.
- Specialized training with successful completion of an accredited mechanics course that may include welding, blueprint reading, mechanics, rigging and precision measuring instrument use.
- Minimum (2) years’ experience in the mechanical maintenance field, or a related field. Experience may be substituted for specialized training; (2) years’ experience for one year specialized training.
- Must be at least (18) years of age.
- Basic knowledge of hydraulics and low voltage controls.
- Knowledge and ability to work alone on weekends.
Level 3:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Strong mechanical ability.
- Wisp Resort Climbing Certification
- Training or experience in welding, prefer welding certification.
- Training and experience in operation of heavy equipment.
- Basic knowledge of hydraulics and low voltage controls, and electrical systems.

- Minimum (4) years’ experience in the mechanical maintenance field, or a related field. Experience may be substituted for specialized training; (2) years’ experience for one year specialized training.
- Must be at least (18) years of age.
- Knowledge and ability to work alone on weekends.
Level 4:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
