Foundation Director directs the execution of the vision, strategic planning, financial management, fundraising, and grantmaking operations that support the overall objectives of a foundation. Defines the goals and tactics for fundraising campaigns and program initiatives. Being a Foundation Director represents the foundation to the public and media to communicate its mission, values, and accomplishments. Maintains positive relationships with foundation stakeholders, including the board of directors, grantees, community leaders, donors, and prospective donors. Additionally, Foundation Director oversees grantmaking operations, including developing grant guidelines, reviewing grant applications, and managing the grant evaluation process. Manages foundation programs and initiatives that align with the foundation's mission and values. Implements systems for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the foundation's grantmaking and programs. Ensures all foundation activities comply with applicable laws, reporting requirements, and regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Foundation Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Foundation Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Bellarmine University is seeking to hire an Assistant Director of Foundation Relations and Grants. Reporting to the Chief Government, Community, and Strategic Partnership Officer, the Assistant Director of Foundation Relations and Grants is a key member of the university.

    The duties of the Assistant Director include:

    • Preparing proposal drafts and support documents.
    • Participating in the development of strategies for the presentation of proposals or other funding requests.
    • Providing oversight and support for the development and submission of faculty grant proposals and for proposals submitted to foundations as well as public (such as federal and state) funding agencies.
    • Preparing and submitting annual stewardship reports for grant-funded initiatives.
    • Performing appropriate research into the philanthropic goals of and Bellarmine-ties with specific foundations and corporations.
    • Working closely with department chairpersons, other faculty, administrative officers of the university, and volunteers.


    Job Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of one year of relevant experience, or the equivalent, is required. Advance/graduate degrees helpful.
    • At least two years of experience working on a high-functioning team preferred.
    • Exceptional persuasive writing and verbal communication skills are required, as is superior ability to creatively articulate the needs, interests and accomplishments of Bellarmine University to a wide range of audiences.
    • Ability to quickly grasp and foster synergies between Bellarmine and its complex environment and the philanthropic goals of major national and regional corporations.
    • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, diplomacy, and tact in all work efforts.
    • Comfortable working in an environment that emphasizes quantitative performance goals and metrics, as well as requires adaptability to changing circumstances and unique opportunities as they occur.
    • Possess creative skills that facilitate success in an environment where critical thinking and teamwork are required.
    • Reflect experience in collaborative project management, independently setting and reaching goals, gathering, and organizing information and an ability to balance multiple priorities.
    • Project a high degree of intelligence, energy and imagination and have an outstanding work ethic and personal enthusiasm for the mission of Bellarmine University, as well as a genuine commitment to the advancement of science and education.
    • Weekend and night work possible; travel for prospect work required.
