Foundation Director directs the execution of the vision, strategic planning, financial management, fundraising, and grantmaking operations that support the overall objectives of a foundation. Defines the goals and tactics for fundraising campaigns and program initiatives. Being a Foundation Director represents the foundation to the public and media to communicate its mission, values, and accomplishments. Maintains positive relationships with foundation stakeholders, including the board of directors, grantees, community leaders, donors, and prospective donors. Additionally, Foundation Director oversees grantmaking operations, including developing grant guidelines, reviewing grant applications, and managing the grant evaluation process. Manages foundation programs and initiatives that align with the foundation's mission and values. Implements systems for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the foundation's grantmaking and programs. Ensures all foundation activities comply with applicable laws, reporting requirements, and regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Foundation Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Position Summary
The Sun Prairie Education Foundation was formed in 2005 with a mission to enhance education for students in the Sun Prairie Area School District’s public schools. We are an independent nonprofit organization governed by a Board of Trustees. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Trustees and serves as the principal professional resource to the Sun Prairie Education Foundation (SPEF). The Director is identifiable as a visible, positive representative of SPEF, and is responsible for year-round financial growth and organizational development. The Director builds relationships with and offers support to Foundation donors, ensures that SPEF policies and procedures are followed, and the stated goals and outcomes are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Board Governance
· Collaborate with Board members to uphold a supportive culture that inspires active participation and clear open communication
· Plan for future growth for SPEF, including guiding planning sessions
· Develop and coordinate agendas, send meeting notices and attend Board of Trustees and committee meetings
· Oversee maintenance, organization of records and confidential business information
· Maintain a schedule of policies, procedures, and other SPEF documents, including a review of said documents
Fundraising/ Development
· Coordinate all fundraising and development activities of the organization, including overseeing fundraising events
· Develop and implement strategies and initiatives for ongoing fundraising and special campaigns to ensure year-round financial growth
· Maintain donor relations to identify and build relationships with prospective donors
· Research, identify, and contact potential sources of funding including corporations, local businesses, and individuals
· Support Grant determination activities, including maintaining spreadsheets, thank you letters, response (reject and success letters) and large check award creation
Communication/ Marketing
· Cultivate and develop cooperative relationships in the community and with the School District of Sun Prairie
· Enhance public understanding and support of SPEF through a year-round communication programs
· Manage all the public relations for the organization
· Coordinate the production of all communication tools
· Maintain the organization’s website and social media sites
Administrative and Financial Management
· Manage the financial resources of SPEF including annual operating budget
· Maintain the SPEF schedule and calendar
· Assist board committees and individual trustees with administrative duties as requested
· Oversee planning and execution of non-fundraising SPEF events
· Other duties as assigned by the Board of Trustees
Required Education and/or Experience
· Bachelor’s degree or relevant years of work experience
· Three or more years of experience in nonprofit management
Skills/Knowledge Required
· Collaboration and facilitation skills
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Strong organizational and planning skills
· Comfort with public presentations, positive attitude
· Excellent interpersonal skills (ability to quickly develop and manage relationships)
· Proven Fundraising experience
· Knowledge of public education and school district organization
· Skilled use of social media
· Competence in software packages such as Microsoft and Google
Working Conditions
· This is a primarily a remote position
· Office space is available at Wisconsin Wealth Advisors during business hours
· Work computer and Printer will be provided by SPEF
· Cell phone will be provided by SPEF
· Individual must pass a background check
· Individual must be able to maintain a flexible work schedule
· The Executive Director must have a vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license
· Job performance will be reviewed annually
