Foundation Director directs the execution of the vision, strategic planning, financial management, fundraising, and grantmaking operations that support the overall objectives of a foundation. Defines the goals and tactics for fundraising campaigns and program initiatives. Being a Foundation Director represents the foundation to the public and media to communicate its mission, values, and accomplishments. Maintains positive relationships with foundation stakeholders, including the board of directors, grantees, community leaders, donors, and prospective donors. Additionally, Foundation Director oversees grantmaking operations, including developing grant guidelines, reviewing grant applications, and managing the grant evaluation process. Manages foundation programs and initiatives that align with the foundation's mission and values. Implements systems for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the foundation's grantmaking and programs. Ensures all foundation activities comply with applicable laws, reporting requirements, and regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Foundation Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Foundation Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

    We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to fill the role of Associate Director of Development in Corporate & Foundation Relations. This is a full-time administrative staff position with a primary focus on securing corporate and foundation support to advance Pacific University’s mission, particularly in the areas of scholarships, general operating funds, and initiatives outlined in the University's forthcoming strategic plan.

     

     

    Annual Salary: $85,000

     

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Oversee the entire corporate & foundation relations lifecycle within the assigned portfolio, including: prospect research, identification, cultivation, communication, proposal development, grant supervision, and stewardship.
    • Design compelling grant proposals and project reports to effectively communicate our mission, goals, and impact.
    • Develop innovative cultivation methods, leveraging campus events to introduce foundation program officers and representatives to key staff and faculty members.
    • Monitor and evaluate progress toward goals, provide statistical reports on an ongoing basis and as requested, and suggest/request appropriate research for individual/group and foundation prospects.
    • Collaborate with various faculty, directors, and Development team staff to maximize philanthropic potential. Focus on building bridges across units and devising creative approaches to increase proposals.
    • Work in concert with the office responsible for sponsored research to supplement and complement grant requests to government agencies.
    • Support fundraising efforts targeting strategic partnerships and initiatives, aligning with department leadership's agreed-upon priorities.
    • Direct foundation approaches and solicitations, engaging key stakeholders such as the president, provost, deans, directors, and faculty. This includes prospect identification, assignment, solicitation, and follow-up

    Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications


    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    • A Bachelor's degree is required, and a Master's degree is preferred.
    • A minimum of five years of experience in higher education, nonprofits, or corporate relations is preferred, with a specific emphasis on foundation fundraising.
    • Familiarity with Pacific University is desirable.
    • The ideal candidate should have a strong track record of establishing and maintaining effective development relations with a diverse range of individuals and organizations.

    • Proficient in fundraising techniques, encompassing proposal development, prospect identification, program planning, fund solicitation, and donor tracking.
    • Strong database management skills.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills for effective interaction with academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors, and/or volunteers in various roles.
    • Ability to work independently while fostering effective working relationships within a team environment.
    • Demonstrates good judgment and a clear understanding of ethics related to development activities. Upholds a high level of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to University business and confidential prospect information.
    • Maintains discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers, and others.
    • Develops knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with individuals of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
    • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present effectively to diverse groups.
    • Strong sense of initiative, maturity, cultural depth and breadth, discipline, creativity, and integrity are highly desired traits.
    • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team, prioritizing assignments and Development unit needs.
    • High degree of organizational skills.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    This position is based on Pacific’s Forest Grove Campus but may require occasional travel to other campuses, as well as throughout the Portland Metro Area and some regional travel. This position requires the ability and willingness to work evening and weekend hours occasionally. This position is primarily sedentary office work. Occasionally this position will need to stand and walk; twist; lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 25 pounds Ability to communicate effectively via phone email, online meetings, and in person.
