Foundation Director directs the execution of the vision, strategic planning, financial management, fundraising, and grantmaking operations that support the overall objectives of a foundation. Defines the goals and tactics for fundraising campaigns and program initiatives. Being a Foundation Director represents the foundation to the public and media to communicate its mission, values, and accomplishments. Maintains positive relationships with foundation stakeholders, including the board of directors, grantees, community leaders, donors, and prospective donors. Additionally, Foundation Director oversees grantmaking operations, including developing grant guidelines, reviewing grant applications, and managing the grant evaluation process. Manages foundation programs and initiatives that align with the foundation's mission and values. Implements systems for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the foundation's grantmaking and programs. Ensures all foundation activities comply with applicable laws, reporting requirements, and regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Foundation Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Foundation Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     POSITION SUMMARY

    The Manager – Foundation Relations is responsible for direct oversight of the college’s work with foundation funders.  They are responsible for the creation and management of a well-coordinated, strategic development plan to cultivate and solicit support from foundations and government sources.  This position works to establish long term partnerships, strengthen existing relationships and initiate new contacts within the community of foundations.  The desired candidate will provide the expertise to advance the Culinary Institute of America (CIA’s) interests by researching and identifying sources of support, proactively seeking opportunities to generate new proposals based on foundation guidelines and interests, and by maintaining strong communication ties with foundation donors and prospects.  This position collaborates with CIA’s academic leadership on funding priorities.

     

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Liaise with appropriate staff and executives at foundations to strengthen existing relationships.
    • Advise CIA Advancement staff and other stakeholders in the process of identification, solicitation, and stewardship of foundation prospects.
    • Match CIA’s strengths and interests with prospective foundation donor interests.
    • Develop, revise, and package formal proposals; collect and analyze available research data pertinent to the development of relationships with potential donors.
    • Assist in the development of departmental policies, procedures and systems.
    • Study and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs, and financial needs of the CIA.
    • Research and propose grant opportunities from government and non-government agencies.
    • Maintain positive relationships with foundation funders and other stakeholders.
    • Compile records and submit reports related to grant opportunities.
    • Manager the calendar of deadlines for all reports requested by foundation funders.
    • Develop and deliver reports requested by foundations throughout the year.
    • Any and all other duties as assigned.

     

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    • Associate’s Degree required.

    Experience:

    • A minimum of two (2) years of work experience within fundraising or communications.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in fundraising, communications, journalism, writing, business, finance, or related field preferred.
    • Not for profit, higher education or food service industry work experience.
    • Annual fund and/or Alumni relations experience.
    • Grant writing experience.
    • Knowledge of Advancement/sales database systems.

     

    REQUIRED SKILLS

    • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
    • Demonstrated ability in proposal writing for varied proposal development.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices, and procedures for obtaining information about the giving programs of foundations.
    • High level of energy and self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.
    • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and networking skills with large groups as well as with individuals.
    • Must be goal-oriented and creative with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with a talent for building strong and productive relationships across constituencies.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable, and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
    • Demonstrated ability to show a high level of service responsiveness to customers and effective partnership with colleagues, as well as the ability to determine when situations require escalation or may be handled independently.
    • Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive issues with confidentiality and discretion.
    • Must have a proven, consistent track record showing the ability to work with all levels within an organization.
    • Strong computer experience, which must include abilities to work effectively with database systems and MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Ability to work nights and weekends as required based on business needs.
    • Regular work requires using a computer in excess of eight (8) hours per day.
