Foundation Director directs the execution of the vision, strategic planning, financial management, fundraising, and grantmaking operations that support the overall objectives of a foundation. Defines the goals and tactics for fundraising campaigns and program initiatives. Being a Foundation Director represents the foundation to the public and media to communicate its mission, values, and accomplishments. Maintains positive relationships with foundation stakeholders, including the board of directors, grantees, community leaders, donors, and prospective donors. Additionally, Foundation Director oversees grantmaking operations, including developing grant guidelines, reviewing grant applications, and managing the grant evaluation process. Manages foundation programs and initiatives that align with the foundation's mission and values. Implements systems for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the foundation's grantmaking and programs. Ensures all foundation activities comply with applicable laws, reporting requirements, and regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Foundation Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Foundation Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Assistant Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations

  • Primary Purpose:
    Under limited direction, the position is responsible for administering, cultivating, stewarding and soliciting corporate and foundations in alignment with the University's mission and strategic plan. This position exercises autonomy in proposing collaboration with University Development colleagues as well as non-Development faculty and staff for cross-disciplinary fundraising strategies.

    Essential Functions:
    Determines and actively promotes and evaluates corporate and foundation funding opportunities that align with University priorities and initiatives in order to ensure submission of strong applications for funding.
    Drafts grant proposals, prepares stewardship reports and letters, and assists with developing agendas and site visits; researches new prospects; prepares briefings and background materials.
    Visits and develops relationships with foundation and corporate directors and personnel on behalf of the University at their location as well as hosts campus visits to build and enhance relationships with potential outside funding partners.
    Identifies creative and strategic ways for stewarding donors and cultivating the donor to align with future funding or giving opportunities.
    Provides training and guidance to empower colleagues with the ability to successfully utilize effective grant writing techniques.
    Ensures compliance with proposal submission requirements and deadlines, including drafting, editing, and compiling supporting documentation.
    Helps identify potential foundation and corporate funding prospects.
    Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelors Degree.
    Three (3) years of successful work experience in a higher education development role or sales/solicitation experience in another industry.

    Preferred Qualifications:Skills/Knowledge and Expertise:
    Excellent persuasive writing and research capabilities.
    Demonstrated effectiveness in corporate and/or foundation prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation.
    Superior written and oral communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to articulate a compelling case for philanthropic support programs.
    Expertise in use of English grammar, punctuation, and syntax.
    Knowledge of best practices in proposal development.
    Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
    Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve goals.
    Excellent organizational, interpersonal and networking skills in large groups as well as with individuals.
    Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects and complete them in a timely manner.
    Demonstrated ability to maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
    Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.

    Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with use of computer and phone.     Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
    Work performed during standard business hours. Must also be prepared to work non-business hours and weekends. Occasional travel both local and overnight. Use of laptops and cellular devices required while on University business.
