Foundation Director directs the execution of the vision, strategic planning, financial management, fundraising, and grantmaking operations that support the overall objectives of a foundation. Defines the goals and tactics for fundraising campaigns and program initiatives. Being a Foundation Director represents the foundation to the public and media to communicate its mission, values, and accomplishments. Maintains positive relationships with foundation stakeholders, including the board of directors, grantees, community leaders, donors, and prospective donors. Additionally, Foundation Director oversees grantmaking operations, including developing grant guidelines, reviewing grant applications, and managing the grant evaluation process. Manages foundation programs and initiatives that align with the foundation's mission and values. Implements systems for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the foundation's grantmaking and programs. Ensures all foundation activities comply with applicable laws, reporting requirements, and regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Foundation Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Foundation Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Status: Full-time, non-exempt employee (35-40 hours/week)

    Purpose: To provide support and leadership to the Ottawa County Community Foundation Board in building a viable community foundation.

    OBJECTIVES:

    • Increase foundation’s ability to add funds and grow assets
    • Increase planned gifts for future growth
    • Offer support for community foundation board

    SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Effective oral and written communicator
    • Work collaboratively with advisory board members
    • Experience with social media communications
    • Proficient in Microsoft programs and ability to learn new software
    • Ability to interpret financial documents
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Ability to create meaningful relationships with board members, donors, and community leaders
    • Fundraising skills
    • Bachelor's degree preferred
    • Preferred experience working with boards and committees
    • Valid Kansas driver’s license

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Board relations
    • Implement advisory board directives
    • Provide assessment and evaluation of organizational activities and projects to the board
    • Produce and distribute regular operational reports to the board (written and verbal)
    • Assist board president with board agenda and supporting board activities packet
    • Positive stewardship for OCCF donors and prospective donors
    • Actively seeks opportunities to speak about OCCF before donors and community groups
    • Help develop and implement a communications plan to raise community awareness of the community foundation
    • Help coordinate OCCF programs and events including Match Month, etc.
    • Understand and apply foundation policies and procedures
    • Serves as liaison between OCCF and other area community foundation
    • Work with other staff members as needed
    • Flexibility to changes as needed

    DEVELOPMENT EXPECTATIONS:

    • Participates in training provided by foundation and regional or national trainings as recommended, including Foundation Fundamentals training and KACF annual conference
    • Skills development as identified by the board
    • Seeks other opportunities for learning in the field
    • Assist the board with long-term vision and goals
    • Increase the foundation’s ability to add funds and grow assets
    • Increase planned gifts for future growth
