The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast is to provide high-quality, out-of-school Club experiences to ensure our young people, especially those who need us most, are on track to graduate from high school with a plan for their future, demonstrate good character & citizenship, and live a healthy lifestyle.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Director of Prevention Services, the Prevention Specialist at Boys & Girls Clubs of the Suncoast (BGCS) will be working with middle school age youth, between the ages of 10 and 15 who are at risk of becoming involved in substance abuse related activities, specifically opioids. The Specialist is responsible for implementing an action plan while monitoring progress of all youths enrolled in the prevention program.
The successful candidate will show passion for youth, be able to articulate how they steward resources, identify how integrity relates to the position, and have a history of demonstrating respect for all contacts including clients, peers, agency partners, and the general community.
Requirements
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Collaborate with school administrators, guidance counselors and teachers to identify at risk youths
• Develop an individual action plan for the youth and verify monthly attendance at their BGCS Club
• Maintain frequent contact with the youth and his/her family to share concerns, ideas, information etc.
• Complete needs assessment by interviewing the student and family, and school administer to generate and implement an effective action plan
• Provide information to community partners to help generate new students to join this program
• Attend staff meetings regularly to receive and share information and new ideas
• Always maintain strict client confidentiality
• Assist in other areas as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, education, or counseling (preferred)
• Three to five years of related experience (preferred)
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision
• Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written
• Self-disciplined, takes initiative, remains focused in the face of pressure
• Proven ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, and good humor
• Demonstrates a relentless commitment to excellence in all tasks
• Team player with strong interpersonal skills
• Satisfactory MVR record
TRAVEL:
Travel will be required to multiple Club facilities throughout Pinellas County for training and/or other business purposes.
