Fundraising Director directs an organization's fundraising strategies, campaigns, capital development initiatives, and operations to support the overall organizational development and revenue objectives. Leads donor stewardship and relations to identify, develop, retain, and nurture a portfolio of individual and institutional donors. Being a Fundraising Director researches and identifies potential corporate or governmental partnerships and grant funding opportunities. Creates collaborative coordination between staff and internal stakeholders to plan events and communications to increase donor engagement. Additionally, Fundraising Director uses technology to manage and monitor donor information and produce data-driven measurement and reporting of the progress of fundraising goals. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Fundraising Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     The Children’s Guild (TCG) is seeking an experienced and dedicated Major Gifts and Fundraising Director to play a pivotal role in shaping and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy. This role is integral to our mission of expanding our impact and reaching even more young lives. The successful candidate will be a versatile and data-driven fundraiser with a proven track record of achieving ambitious growth goals, launching innovative revenue streams, and cultivating mutually beneficial relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders.

    The Children's Guild is a nonprofit organization serving children, families, and child-serving organizations. We provide individualized transformational experiences to ensure children, families, and communities thrive through education, behavioral health, management, and consulting services. The Children's Guild operates the Monarch Academy public charter and contract schools, Monarch Preschool College Park, The Children's Guild DC Public Charter School, The Children’s Guild Transformation Academy, TranZed Apprenticeships, treatment foster care, and outpatient mental health clinics.     Qualifications


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Major Gift Fundraising: Develop and implement a comprehensive major gift fundraising strategy to secure significant financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations.2.
    2. Donor Cultivation: Cultivate and steward relationships with major donors and prospective major donors, effectively communicating the impact and importance of The Children's Guild's work.
    3. Strategic Planning: Work with the Executive Leadership Team to set annual fundraising goals and develop an effective major gift fundraising plan.
    4. Proposal Development: Create compelling fundraising proposals and grant applications that align with the organization's mission and objectives.5.
    5. Prospect Research: Identify and research potential major gift prospects and funding opportunities.
    6. Board Engagement: Collaborate with the Board of Directors to engage and leverage their networks for fundraising efforts.
    7. Event Coordination: Organize and manage fundraising events, including galas, donor receptions, and cultivation events.
    8. Data Management: Maintain accurate records of donor interactions and fundraising activities in the organization's database.
    9. Budget Management: Manage and oversee the budget allocated for major gift fundraising activities, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
    10. Reporting: Provide regular reports and updates to the Senior Leadership Team and Managing Directors on the progress of major gift fundraising initiatives.

     

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    To excel in this role, you should possess:

    • A Bachelor's degree or candidate in a related field is preferred but not required.
    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in major gift fundraising and nonprofit development.
    • Strong knowledge of the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia) philanthropic community.
    • A proven track record of securing major gifts and grants.
    • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
    • The ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.
    • Knowledge of fundraising software and database management.
    • A genuine passion for the mission of The Children's Guild.

     

    Competencies

    To perform the job successfully, an individual will retain accountability for the following Key Result Areas (KRAs).

     

    Key Result Area #1 Fundraising Strategy Development and Implementation:

    1. Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy for The Children’s Guild including growing the donor database, moves management, and donor engagement.

     

    This KRA is successful when:

    1. Achieve a 3-5% increase in fundraising revenue compared to the previous year.

     

    Key Result Area #2 Major Gifts Acquisition:

    1. Secure major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.

     

    This KRA is successful when:

    1. Achieve 3 major gifts valued at $10,000 or more within 12 months.
    2. Achieves an increase of 3-5% in major gift acquisitions annually.

     

    Key Result Area #3 Donor Engagement:

    • Create and execute donor engagement strategies.

     

    This KRA is successful when:

    1. Increase donor engagement levels, resulting in a 10% growth in donor participation in events and campaigns within the first 12 months.
    2. Donor engagement levels grow at a rate of 1-3% each subsequent year.
    3. Increase the number of donor events by 15% compared to the previous year.
    4. Raise at least $200,000 in revenue through donor events annually with a 1-3% growth each year.
    5. Achieve a minimum 50% attendance rate at donor events in the first 12 months and a 70% attendance rate in subsequent years.
    6. Develop and implement 5-8 targeted donor touchpoints or engagement activities within the fiscal year.
    7. Measure donor engagement levels, leading to a 10% rise in donor retention annually.
    8. Implement a robust donor recognition program.

     

    Key Result Area #4 Expanding Donor Database:

    • Expand the organization's donor database.

     

    This KRA is successful when:

    1. New Donor Acquisition: Actively seek and secure new donors to expand the database. Attract and add a minimum of 10 new donors to the database per month, contributing to annual growth in donor acquisition.
      1. Donor Research: Conduct comprehensive donor research to identify potential major gift donors. Complete in-dept research on at least 25 prospective major gift donors each quarter, resulting in the identification of potential major gift prospects.
      2. Donor Profiling: Create detailed donor profiles with relevant information. Maintain at least 70% of active donors in the database, ensuring profiles include key information.
      3. Database Analysis: Have the donor database analyzed 2x per year to understand donor metrics and measure donor engagement levels and fundraising impact.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    The Major Gifts and Fundraising Director, in a supervisory capacity, is responsible for overseeing staff in the Development department, actively seeking new donors, conducting thorough donor research, and ensuring the growth of the donor database.

    A bachelor’s degree or bachelor’s candidate is preferred, but not required.

This unique arrangement allows for a balance between remote work and in-person presence, optimizing both productivity and team collaboration.

     

    Work Arrangement:

    This position will operate on a 60% remote and 40% in-person work arrangement. The specifics of this arrangement are as follows:

     

    • Remote Work (60%): In this capacity, you will have the flexibility to work from a remote location, enabling you to efficiently manage tasks, conduct research, and engage in donor outreach activities from a location of your choice. This remote work component acknowledges the value of a flexible work environment, offering you the autonomy to structure your workday effectively while maintaining a work-life balance.
    • In-Person Work (40%): A significant part of your role will entail in-person engagements, including team meetings, donor events, and collaboration with colleagues at The Children's Guild's physical office location or at our various programs and schools. This in-person component ensures effective teamwork, fosters face-to-face relationships, and supports the organization's mission and culture.

     

     

    Work Location and Travel Requirements

    This position will be based at The Children’s Guild at 1200 First St NE, Washington, DC. This role requires reporting to the home base office and requires 40% travel within the DMV region, including Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, to meet with donors, attend events, and engage with stakeholders.
