Fundraising Director directs an organization's fundraising strategies, campaigns, capital development initiatives, and operations to support the overall organizational development and revenue objectives. Leads donor stewardship and relations to identify, develop, retain, and nurture a portfolio of individual and institutional donors. Being a Fundraising Director researches and identifies potential corporate or governmental partnerships and grant funding opportunities. Creates collaborative coordination between staff and internal stakeholders to plan events and communications to increase donor engagement. Additionally, Fundraising Director uses technology to manage and monitor donor information and produce data-driven measurement and reporting of the progress of fundraising goals. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Fundraising Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     Work Location: This is a remote position.


    Work Schedule:
    The typical work week is forty (40) hours. During periods of high activity (i.e., during OBR deployments and events), the position may require working on evenings and weekends. This position requires travel. Each Disaster Response travel assignment may last up to fourteen (14) days. Event related travel may last up to five (5) days.

    Position Summary: The Director of Special Events & Fundraising will plan a minimum of two major events (i.e., OBR Golf and BBQ Academy Event) as well as a minimum of six (6) other Special Events throughout the year located across the USA. The goal of these events will be generating revenue while raising awareness of the organization’s mission, accomplishments, work, goals, and financial needs. The Head of Special Events & Fundraising must be able to perform all physical and administrative tasks related to events, including but not limited to creation, idea generation, design, implementation, and production of fundraising events, programs, and materials.


    Essential Functions:

    • Manages new and existing major annual events such as the OBR Golf Outing and BBQ Academy each spring
    • Plan and coordinate at least six (6) Special Events during each calendar year.
    • Lead all OBR events from strategy development through execution.
    • Manage all aspects of Special Events including but not limited to event logistics, event sponsorships, vendors, event committees and volunteers, auction solicitation, ticket sales, promotions, and budgets.
    • Event related responsibilities include, but are not limited to, event budgeting, results analysis, and analysis of vendor/contractor performance.
    • Establishes and maintains relationships with contractors, vendors, attendees and venues.
    • Collaborate with employees, volunteers, and independent contractors to coordinate, oversee, manage, or effectuate special donor cultivation events, donor appreciation events, donor acknowledgement and recognition, and other such events or actions related to donor relations.
    • Oversee, manage, coordinate, and act as liaison for all third party fundraising events
    • Create, produce, publicize events using event specific and organizational promotional materials.
    • Work collaboratively with all OBR departments to ensure appropriate event volunteer coverage, attendees, and donor relationships.
    • Travel to and review possible new locations for events when necessary and attend OBR events to provide onsite support.
    • Draft, produce, create, publish, and distribute email blasts and communications for all events, appeals, and general announcements.
    • Coordinate hotels, transportation, hospitality, entertainment, and food for Special Events.
    • Ensure donated and other incoming funds are collected within an established timeline.
    • Draft, write, and edit donor related correspondence, solicitations, appreciation and acknowledgment letters.
    • Manage the donor database to reflect interactions with donors, participants, and volunteers, including communications sent and received, meetings, volunteer, etc.
    • Conduct donor analysis and creates tracking reports.
    • Develop strategies to encourage new or increased donations, fundraising, and contributions.
    • Achieve fundraising goals for special events or specified time periods.
    • Identify and build relationships with potential donors.
    • Participate in the OBR budget process as it related to Fundraising and Special Events.
    • Provide progress reports OBR management related to special events and fundraising.
    • Attend community events, meetings, or conferences to promote organizational goals or solicit donations.
    • Develop fundraising activity plans that maximize participation or contributions and minimize costs.
    • Conduct research to identify the goals, net worth, history of charitable donations, or other data related to potential donors.
    • Collaborate with and coordinate communication among all OBR departments regarding Special Events and Fundraising.


    Required Skills/Abilities/Qualifications:

    • At least five years of experience coordinating fundraising events for a non-profit with proven track record of success
    • Experience with donor databases (One Cause a plus)
    • Ability to collaborate and adjust smoothly to changing priorities.
    • Attention to detail, ability to work independently and under deadline.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to diverse groups of people.
    • Strong verbal, written and public speaking communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.
    • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
    • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.


    Education and Experience:

    • Degree from four-year accredited college and five plus years of experience in a position focused on fundraising and special event management.


    Language Ability:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


    Math Ability:

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
