Fundraising Director directs an organization's fundraising strategies, campaigns, capital development initiatives, and operations to support the overall organizational development and revenue objectives. Leads donor stewardship and relations to identify, develop, retain, and nurture a portfolio of individual and institutional donors. Being a Fundraising Director researches and identifies potential corporate or governmental partnerships and grant funding opportunities. Creates collaborative coordination between staff and internal stakeholders to plan events and communications to increase donor engagement. Additionally, Fundraising Director uses technology to manage and monitor donor information and produce data-driven measurement and reporting of the progress of fundraising goals. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Fundraising Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Fundraising Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Director of Philanthropic Arts/Fundraising & Development Director

    Arbor Acres, the premier retirement community in Winston-Salem is seeking a Director of its Philanthropic Arts Division due to the planned retirement of a senior staff member.

    This individual works with the senior leadership team to identify needs that are key to our organization’s development and strategic growth. Through the Director’s deep knowledge of our residents’ backgrounds and interests, as well as their charitable commitments, the Director will identify paths to ensure that funds are available to support the organization’s mission.

The campus is currently located on an 83-acre beautifully landscaped area in the heart of Winston-Salem close to its vibrant downtown, hospitals and Wake Forest University.     The Director manages annual fundraising, special fundraising activities, donor cultivation, and ensures a solid stewardship of gifts and planned giving. Relationships and community are key to the culture of Arbor Acres, and this individual will develop a personal and deep knowledge of the residents and the organizational values and history. Major capital campaign leadership and expansion of current philanthropic activities will be key areas of focus.

    This position reports to the President and supervises the Stewardship Manager. Additional job details are listed here:

    • Manages the Philanthropic Arts Division to include creating annual operating budget.
    • Provides leadership to the organization with regards to identifying, analyzing and supporting capital campaigns, and assists in the development of the strategic plan.
    • Organizes and implements planned giving programs that promote and encourage inclusion of Arbor Acres in estate plans of residents and others.
    • Organizes and implements annually the Resident Assistance Fund Campaign for both the Spring and Year-end appeals to secure operating funds for the provision of financial assistance to individual in need.
    • Organizes and participates in capital campaigns to meet strategic plan goals. Recommends appropriate use of outside consultants.
    • Develops and monitors systems for maintenance of donor records and for prompt acknowledgement of all gifts. Selects and assures maximum use of fundraising software. Assures accuracy of donor records and use of collected information in the creation of strategic, long-range, and annual goals.
    • Develops, implements, and monitors the memorial gift program.
    • Develops, implements, and personally participates in an organized and planned approach to identifying, involving, and cultivating donors and potential donors. Involves the President/CEO, members of the Board, and others who have the capacity to influence donor prospects in donor cultivation.
    • Responsible for the publication of the Annual Report.
    • Consults with residents on matters pertaining to their financial and estate planning, offering guidance, insight, information and referral as requested.
    • Seeks grants to support program and strategic goals. Coordinates submittal of grant applications and assures compliance with requirements of grants received.
    • Attends meetings such as Town Halls, Board Committees and plans annual Heritage and Anniversary Society dinners and other resident focused events.
    • Assists residents and staff in accomplishment of Resident Council approved philanthropic activities.
    • Develops an annual budget for Philanthropic Arts to include both operating and capital resource requirements.
    • Oversees the Village Gift Shop operations.

    Qualifications


    • Candidate must have excellent communication (written and verbal) skills and time management skills.
    • Proven relationship-building and solicitation skills with an emphasis on working independently.
    • 5-10 years of experience in fund-raising with an emphasis on developing relationships.
    • Executive-level experience and professional fundraising/development certifications are preferred.
    • General office computer application skills are required to include Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and familiarity to donor specific programs.
    • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required.
