Opportunity

In the role of Electric Furnace Technician, selected candidate will be responsible:

• For melting the correct type and amount of iron to meet molding line production schedules
• Follow QS9000 procedures to ensure quality specifications.
• Regulate the electrical power consumption using the demand controller.
• Maintain temperature specifications in all furnaces, and keep accurate melting records.

Specific Responsibilities

• Direct the charge makeup activities and the charge bucket movement to have the necessary charges ready for charging into the correct furnace.
• Closely observe temperatures and carbon equivalent instruments, making temperature, and carbon/silicon adjustments when necessary to stay within established limits.
• Monitor Metals lab information and make adjustments to the melt furnace chemistry in order to maintain specifications in the channel holding furnaces.
• Regulate the power input to the melting furnaces on the basis of an "Electric Power Demand Controller Display Unit".
• Monitor electrical operating panels, inform supervision and call for maintenance help when necessary.
• Direct the charge and tap melt deck operation to maintain iron inventory in the channel holding furnaces. Announce the correct charge additions over a P.A. system
• Maintain accurate daily melting records, store and dispose of records as per QS9000 instructions.
• Follow department safety rules including Lockout/Tagout procedures. 
• Calculate alloy additions for ductile - enamel and engine iron conversions.
• Responsible for the melting operation when the shift foreman is not available.
• Responsible for following the electrical interruptible procedure when a power interruption is called.
