Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Additionally, Furnace Operator/Tender relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Vacuum Melt Furnace Operator - Integration Engineer (R40478)

  • This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

    As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for the assembly and development of Rocket Engine components as part of the Casting operation, located at 18410 63rd Ave NE | Arlington, WA 98223. Your expertise will also drive improvements for rocket engine component’s design, maintenance, and refurbishment. Throughout the manufacturing process, you will identify, develop, and deploy methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build sequence and schedules. As an integral member of the team, you will support DFMA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design, build, and test and accelerate the pace of rocket engine development. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable human spaceflight.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Operates vacuum induction melt furnaces
    • Weighs out alloy loads to charge into furnace
    • Monitors equipment performance
    • Observes metal and adjusts controls to maintain specified temperature, pressure, and other critical characteristics.
    • Inspects and records chemistry of metal using an alloy analyzer
    • Prep / inspect molds for insulation and firing
    • Completes the metal pouring process, including any post-cast actions
    • Records data during and after each melt to ensure quality standards are met
    • Inspect and rebuilds crucibles and induction coils
    • Participates in production meetings to ensure that manufacturing needs are met
    • Follows all safety guidelines established by the Company, including proper use of safety equipment and relevant safety procedures
    • Follows work instructions and records accurate information daily.
    • Follows additional instructions and other duties as assigned.
    • Help maintain inventory of tooling and equipment
    • Safely work with hazardous systems, chemicals, and materials using the proper PPE
    • Identify, develop, and deploy new manufacturing methods (or refine existing) to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build schedule
    • Support DFMEA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design, build, and test
    • Support the development of manufacturing work instructions to clearly define the following manufacturing process: receiving inspection, fabrication, assembly, test, integration, and refurbishment
    • Identify non-conformances and escapes, support and deploy corrective actions
    • Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire build and test process
    • Other responsibilities as assigned

     

    Minimum Qualifications

    • 3 years of direct manufacturing experience
    • Experience reading and understanding specification and detailed work instructions
    • Comfortable working in a hot environment
    • Basic computer skills
    • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organization
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
    • Physical Requirements:
      • Climb ladders and stairs
      • Lift and carry 50 lbs. for limited durations

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 5 year prior casting experience
    • Vacuum equipment experience
    • 1 years of experience working in an aerospace manufacturing environment
