Furniture Finisher restores and preserves furniture using variety of hand and power tools. Applies knowledge of fabrics and wood furniture to complete projects. Being a Furniture Finisher may require a high school diploma or its equivalent. May have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Additionally, Furniture Finisher is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Furniture Technician apprenticeship requires the completion of a 52-week training course. Apprentices are required to pass a performance-based practical exam at the end of each training cycle. Shop refinishing personnel must be qualified to troubleshoot, problem solve, rebuild, refinish, touch-up and repair any and all merchandise that does not meet the quality standards for delivery or pick-up by the company’s customers.
