  • Under direct supervision, the GIS Intern will help the team support multiple local government agencies with their spatial data needs. They will work on projects such as maps, reports, dashboards, and web applications using ESRI ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Enterprise software. They will perform geo-modeling, spatial analysis, data management, and quality control tasks. They will collaborate with other GIS professionals and stakeholders to deliver high-quality products that meet the requirements and expectations of our clients.(Essential function, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics.  This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.)
     
    • Create and maintain GIS datasets for spatial data and metadata using best practices and standards.
    • Perform geo-modeling, spatial analysis and data visualization using various tools and methods.
    • Produce base map elements, presentation maps, reports, dashboards, and web applications using ESRI ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Server. 
    • Provide Cartographic, geographic, and analytic information services to multiple local government agencies and their interagency counterparts.
    • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders on project status, issues, and solutions. 
    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in geography, geographic information systems or related field (or currently pursuing).
    Knowledge and Skills:
    • Knowledge of GIS software packages such as ESRI ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro), ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server and QGIS.
    • Knowledge in geo-modeling, spatial analysis (e.g., geoprocessing tools), data management (e.g., geodatabases), quality control (e.g., topology), cartography (e.g., symbology), web mapping (e.g., web app builder). 
    • Knowledgeable in basic statistics, geography, and programming (e.g., Python).  
    • Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
