GIS Supervisor manages, plans, assigns, and reviews analysts and developers' work on GIS projects. Oversees the production of reports, maps, applications, and visualizations for internal or external stakeholders. Being a GIS Supervisor ensures proper maintenance, documentation, and cleaning of GIS data. Develops methods to leverage GIS data for new applications. Additionally, GIS Supervisor typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The GIS Supervisor manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a GIS Supervisor typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Job Purpose
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) provides leadership in a partnership effort to help people conserve, maintain and improve our natural resources and environment.
Straughan Environmental, Inc. works with NRCS, helping to create and manage spatial data for easement programs managed by NRCS' Easement Program Division.
The work performed in this role serves NRCS' mission of 'helping people help the land,' working with landowners to voluntarily put conservation on the ground and preserve the natural environment for future generations.
Straughan is looking for a GIS Specialist to aid in this mission with the duties and responsibilities listed below. This position is fully remote, and the ideal candidate will reside within Maryland, Washington, DC, or Virginia.
