They will engage with staff to help identify needs and fulfill requests. They will leave this internship with true experience on desired geospatial analytics relevant to municipal use. With guidance from the Supervising Manager, GIS (Geogrpahic Information System) Park Services Intern job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Clean and standardize data to better suit District needs.
- Collect trails, invasive species, and park amenity data.
- Develop maps for utilization in District management plans and decision making.
- Experience with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
- Familiarity with and understanding of GPS equipment and geospatial data collection.
- Be currently enrolled at, or a recent graduate of, an institution of higher education.
- Course work in ArcGIS
- Proficient computer skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Interest in learning and implementing GIS strategies at the municipal level
- The ability to quickly learn and process information
- A high degree of flexibility and problem-solving skills
- Ability to stay organized and manage large amounts of data
- Average of 40 hours/week, typical daily schedule, 7:30am-4pm, Monday-Friday. Dates are approximate and will run June through August.
- Physical requirements – Must be able to walk, bend, and lift.
- Driver’s license required.
- Work environment – Time will be split between the office and the field. The employee should dress appropriately and be prepared to work in hot or rainy weather. Bug spray, sun block, hiking shoes, water, and a hat are recommended.
