Under immediate supervision, as a part of an internship program, performs varied technical assignments for an administrator within the Utilities department. This position will complete 12 weeks within Utilities and will focus on Geographic Information System (GIS) data collection, data management and advanced analysis. The intern will learn how GIS critically supports municipal infrastructure and the technical systems used by the Utility. The Intern will prepare a report of activities and conduct a brief presentation at conclusion of internship; does related work as required.
Assists in developing and supporting the Utilities GPS and GIS programs; collect GPS data; edit GIS data; accompanies department administrators to meetings and conferences; participates in organizational studies; asks questions and provides stimulus for examination of organizational practices and procedures; evaluates existing administrative policies, practices, and techniques and recommends improvements which are in turn evaluated by an administrator
Must currently be enrolled in an environmental science/sustainability, GIS, Geography, or related program of study. Applicant must have an open mind, a strong desire to learn and a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment. Good oral and written communication skills, as well as attention to detail required.
