Gas Supply Manager manages the supply and purchase of natural gas to meet company needs. Negotiates contracts with approved sources to maintain adequate supply and ensure favorable terms.   • POSITION PURPOSE

    Manage all aspects of Madison Gas and Electric Company's (MGE) corporate financial and compliance reporting processes to the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Oversee the evaluation, maintenance, and reporting of the Company's internal control over financial reporting as required under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOA) 404. Lead technical accounting research to ensure adherence to U.S. GAAP accounting and reporting requirements.

    Essential Functions: (As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, these include the following responsibilities, minimum job knowledge, skills, and abilities. This is not necessarily an all-inclusive listing.)

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manages the preparation of consolidated financial statements, notes to the consolidated financial statements, management's discussion and analysis preparation, and SEC reporting for a publicly traded company.
    • Supervises three high-level analyst positions responsible for financial reporting activities.
    • Conducts technical accounting research to ensure adherence to U.S. GAAP accounting and reporting requirements. Provides accounting guidance relating to the execution of Company business and assists in maintaining current financial reporting standards.
    • Provides support to external firms and agencies during annual audits and compliance reviews. Coordinates preparing and updating of supporting documentation for corporate quarterly reports, annual reports, press releases, and related documents.
    • Assists the AVP Accounting at disclosure and audit committee meetings.
    • Develops and documents control procedures for compliance with SOA and other regulations.
    • Coordinates review, tracking, and accounting of all asset retirement obligations, stock-based compensation, and investments.
    • Defines and manages reporting enhancements and process improvements.
    • Manages the review of all contracts for adherence to accounting principles.
    • Documents and recommends improvements to accounting and related processes.
    • Participates in special projects as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or equivalent required.
    • Minimum of five years of experience in financial reporting, preferably in public accounting.
    • Successful completion of a certified public accountant status or equivalent designation required.
    • Business experience that confirms leadership ability and an understanding of management principles.

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Strong knowledge of SEC reporting requirements. Experience in reviewing or preparing SEC reports of publicly traded companies.
    • Strong knowledge of financial reporting requirements, including Financial Accounting Standards Board and GAAP.
    • Knowledge of utility accounting methods preferred.
    • Knowledge of energy risk management practices.
    • Familiarity with and understanding of asset retirement obligation, stock-based compensation, and investment accounting.
    • Knowledge of management principles combined with proven ability to lead a group in accomplishing objectives.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and computer spreadsheet skills.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Able to work under tight deadlines.
