REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor
HOURS: 7:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Maintenance personnel work directly for the maintenance supervisor and are responsible for repairs throughout the school district. They are to report to the High School maintenance shop for daily job assignments unless instructed otherwise by the Maintenance Supervisor. It is the responsibility of all maintenance personnel to report matters to the supervisor that affect the safety, health and welfare of children and to do their utmost to alleviate unsafe or unhealthy conditions. Maintenance personnel are expected to cooperate with all employees and accommodate emergencies if needed.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possess a current, valid driver’s license for the State of Pennsylvania.
2. The ability to drive or learn to operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles
that include pick-up trucks, tractors, dump trucks, stake trucks, vans and cube vans and be willing to
learn snow plowing with vehicles and grass cutting with tractor.
3. Possess the ability to tow trailers on back of vehicles when necessary.
4. Possess knowledge and skills with tools, materials and possess standard skills in some
areas of general maintenance that includes: Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Carpentry,
Plastering, Cementing, Painting, Landscaping and Welding.
5. Have the ability and knowledge to follow diagrams to accurately layout fields for athletic events.
6. Have the ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, roof or other areas at various heights
above the ground.
7. Have basic ability to read and understand blueprints, building plans, sketches and
schematic drawings.
8. Able to lift and or move heavy items with or without assistance.
9. Able to perform in reasonable weather conditions.
10. Able to assist multi-faced tradesman in completion of task efficiently and professionally.
11. Obtain a satisfactory score on a mechanical aptitude test that includes written and a
practical demonstration.
12. Possess personal characteristics that are conductive around children.
GENERAL DUTIES
The employee shall be able to perform, but not be limited to the following duties:
1. Have a working knowledge and skills in the following phases of maintenance:
Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, Landscaping
2. Demonstrate at least two (2) skills in each category and be willing to learn the skills when need arises:
A. Electrical
a. Locating and repairing short circuits.
b. Installing new outlets and switches.
c. Changing ballasts
d. Installing and replacing motors within reasonable capability.
e. Changing motor pulleys.
f. Servicing buffers, wet vacuums, sweepers, dryers and washers.
g. Trouble shooting motors.
h. Servicing emergency power generators.
B. Plumbing
a. Operating an electric or manual sewer eel.
b. Laying out and fitting threaded pipe.
c. Replacing a thermocouple.
d. Sweating copper tubing.
e. Replacing and recalibrating thermostats.
f. Servicing dishwashers, garbage disposal and sprinklers.
g. Installing and repairing sinks and commodes.
h. Trouble shooting boilers, hot water tanks and unit ventilators.
C. Carpentry
a. Installing floor tile.
b. Installing window glass.
c. Constructing partitions using wood and/or steel studding with a wall
board finish.
d. Hanging wooden and metal doors, installing door locks and closures.
e. Building forms.
f. Minor roofing repairs.
g. Rough and smooth plaster work.
h. Rough and finish cement work.
i. Laying brick and block.
D. Landscaping
a. Apply fertilizer and pesticides to all fields per manufacturer directions.
b. Aerating, topdressing and seeding all fields.
c. Use all grass cutting equipment including riding mowers, push mowers, and grass
trimmers.
d. Use chainsaw and other tools for tree and bush cutting, pruning and removal.
e. Use other grounds keeping equipment (roto-tilling, ball field dressing, line
painting etc.)
f. Support building beautification process by planting and caring for annual and
perennial flowering plants and bushes.
g. Work with seasonal hire landscapers to maintain and improve the appearance
of all school district buildings.
E. General Tasks
Be willing to learn the identified skills when needs arise
The following tasks:
a. Repair/restring blinds.
b. Repair fencing.
c. Identify problems and make minor repairs to lawnmowers, chainsaws,
weed-eaters and district vehicles.
d. Have the ability to identify or seek assistance with tools and various sizes of nuts, bolts,
screws etc. Be able to maintain tools and keep stationary and moving equipment in
working order.
e. Dig ditches with hand and mechanical tools.
f. Paint and plaster the following, but not limited to; classrooms, halls, ceilings and
stairwells.
g. Layout and paint parking lanes, curbs and fences.
h. Patch and seal driveways, tennis courts, play areas and fences.
2. Execute other duties as assigned by the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor, or the Assistant
Buildings and Grounds Supervisor, if within physical capabilities.
