Overview

The Genetic Counselor Assistant (GCA) is integral to the day-to-day office function. This position interacts with providers, genetic counselors, dietitians, nurses, and other administrative staff to support the operations of the genetics team.

Responsibilities

• Provides excellent service to both internal and external customers by applying best practices and standard operating procedures. 
• Prepares correspondence, documents, reports and other materials which may be moderately complex or confidential, sometimes requiring independent judgment. Schedules appointments for department staff as appropriate.
• Obtain applicable records and results from outside providers and laboratories
• Communicate with families regarding pre-clinic information, insurance prior authorization, sample collection, result disclosure, future plan and updates to families at the direction of clinical staff
• Manages lists of established genetics patients and monitors status of pending clinical work-up.
• Manages entering patient data in Ohio Department of Health and other research-based databases.
• Works cross functionally with laboratories, genetic counselors, clinicians and others regarding testing, status updates, delays, referrals, and sample collection.

Qualifications

Education:

Associate's degreeSkills: Exhibits basic knowledge of family structure and questioning for effective intake of relevant information.Experience: Previous experience in genetic counseling preferred.Note: Regular, reliable and consistent attendance is an essential job function.
