Genetics Counselor provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Being a Genetics Counselor recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. May provide crisis intervention as needed. Additionally, Genetics Counselor requires a master's degree of Genetic Counseling. Typically reports to a manager or director. Requires board certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). Typically requires a state license to practice. The Marsh Foundation is seeking a full-time, counselor for its on-campus group home program. The ideal candidate will have experience working with adolescents in individual and group therapy settings. Experience with risk assessment, diagnosis, trauma and sexual offender treatment preferred. License from the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board required. Program encourages and supports clinician development and ongoing training. The therapist is responsible for providing intensive treatment, crisis intervention, and advocacy to adolescents and families. Therapist is responsible for becoming familiar with the group home treatment model and coordinating with all members of the treatment team to achieve targeted outcomes.
